The trend of "saying no" to transcripts is increasingly appearing in many major universities across the country.
In 2025, Hanoi National University of Education will enroll students by 3 methods, instead of 5 methods as in 2024. These are admission methods based on high school graduation exam scores, direct admission, priority admission, and admission based on SPT competency assessment test scores.
The two methods that have been eliminated include the admission method using high school transcripts and the admission method combining aptitude test scores with transcript scores, graduation exam scores or SPT capacity assessment scores.
High school transcript scores are only a separate admission requirement for pedagogical majors at Hanoi National University of Education.
Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education also officially abandoned the admission method based on academic records in 2025.
The school plans to use 4 admission methods, including direct admission (10%), priority admission and admission of specialized class students (10-20%), admission based on specialized competency assessment exam (40-50%), admission based on high school graduation exam (remaining).
Previously in 2024, this university had an admission method using high school transcripts, applicable to all majors except physical education and preschool education. The school used high school study results in 6 semesters of 3 subjects for admission.
Meanwhile, in 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University agreed to implement three university admission methods including direct admission, admission based on the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam, and admission based on high school graduation results.
This means that from 2025, the priority admission method of Ho Chi Minh City National University will no longer exist.
This is considered a "selective" method of reviewing transcripts in 83 specialized and gifted high schools and 66 high schools with good achievements according to the criteria of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Compared to 2024, this year Hanoi University of Industry no longer considers individual transcripts but instead combines this criterion with international certificates, excellent student achievements and test scores to assess capacity and thinking.
Also from 2025, the University of Education (Thai Nguyen University) will not consider early admission based on academic records - a notable difference compared to 2024.
The school has 5 methods, including direct admission, admission based on the results of some capacity assessment tests, admission based on high school graduation exam results, admission based on high school graduation exam results combined with sports aptitude test, and admission of students who have completed the university preparatory program.
Many schools continue to not consider admission based on academic records
In 2025, the National Economics University will continue to "say no" to considering high school transcripts. This university will maintain the same 3 admission methods as in 2024 - the year the school began to "abandon" the high school transcript admission method.
Accordingly, the 3 methods used by the National Economics University include direct admission, admission based on high school graduation exam scores and combined admission (groups with SAT/ACT, groups with ability assessment test scores, groups with IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC scores).
Like many years ago, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will not use the admission method based on high school transcripts in 2025. The school has 3 methods including talent admission (20%), admission based on thinking assessment test scores (40%) and admission based on high school graduation exam scores.
Two major medical universities, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Hanoi Medical University, are expected to continue to "say no" to the admission method based on high school transcripts in 2025 as in previous years.
