Today (December 18), Road Management Area 3 sent a report to the Vietnam Road Administration to the Ministry of Transport about declaring an emergency situation to overcome natural disasters and ensure traffic safety after the serious landslide on National Highway 27C through Khanh Hoa province.
After heavy rains on December 15, Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass experienced 6 landslides. Many large rocks weighing hundreds of tons were lying across the pass. The incident paralyzed traffic, interrupting the road connecting Nha Trang - Da Lat for many days.
By the evening of December 16, authorities had used 17kg of explosives to break up the rock weighing more than 100 tons. However, after clearing the mud, construction workers discovered four more rocks weighing hundreds of tons, blocking Highway 27C at this location.
In addition, the rescue road at Km43+450 on this route was damaged by landslides. The 2-layer corrugated iron guardrail and the entire drainage ditch along the section from Km43+200 to Km43+500 were damaged. Cracks appeared in some locations on the concrete road surface.
Mr. Chu Van An, Deputy Director in charge of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport, said that Khanh Le Pass had rain, strong water flow in the streams and dense fog. Landslides caused traffic jams.
Many workers from various units are breaking rocks and using equipment to clear landslides. At the construction site, 30 pieces of equipment including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and transport vehicles are working 24/7 at two adjacent points to handle landslides and fix problems to clear one lane of the pass.
