The brilliant apricot blossom street just opened yesterday afternoon, January 13.

The apricot blossoms are beautiful and brilliant.

Right on the frontage of Pham Ngoc Thach Street (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House, the yellow apricot flowers stand out against the red background of more than 5,000 uniquely shaped bamboo trees, attracting all eyes.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuc, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House, the organizer of the Vietnamese Tet Festival, this year there are many poles set up in the middle of the yard, interacting with many stalls of Ong Do street, Mai street... creating a peaceful, close, gentle scene for everyone to feel the traditional Tet atmosphere of the Vietnamese people. The most special thing is that on the front of Pham Ngoc Thach street, instead of making a mai garden attached to the tree roots along the road like previous years, this year the organizers designed a Vietnamese bamboo model painted red. On the background of the very large, very tall bamboo models, there will be countless mai trees growing, creating a unique art space cluster.

“We came up with this idea with the hope that everyone, especially young people, will feel that this year everything is reaching new heights, in the spirit of reaching out to a new era of the country. And the message of this year's Vietnamese Tet Festival is the same, the core is still the feeling of family reunion, but there you can also see the story of the city's rise, and young people themselves need to have a sense of responsibility in this goal", Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuc shared.

The image of a house of a Southwestern people is one of the highlights of this year's Mai Street.

Right under the brilliant yellow apricot branches is the “ink and red paper” space of more than 50 young calligraphers. At the calligraphy street, young people who love the art of calligraphy display ink and red paper, decorative items reminiscent of the old Tet along the frontage of Pham Ngoc Thach and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai streets… Visitors can ask for calligraphy, experience on-site workshops, and send their spring wishes into good wishes. And especially, the new feature this year is that the calligraphy street is covered with bamboo frames shaped like modern high-rise buildings, with the red color symbolizing abundance, luck and abundant energy for the new year.

One of the highlights of this year’s Vietnamese Tet Festival is the model of a very large house of the people of the Southwest region located right in the middle of the 4A yard of the Cultural House. The house is designed in the style of a stilt house of the Southwest region with the main color of green, combined with the surrounding clusters of chrysanthemums and brilliant apricot flowers, creating a unique highlight.

Sharing the idea of the house in the festival space, Mr. Phuc said: “When we surveyed the craft villages in An Giang, we came across a very beautiful house. The house looked very peaceful, poetic but also had a breath of the times. That is why we decided to build this house model in the stage area with the desire to express the atmosphere of reunion of each family, so that young people always cherish the moments of reunion during Tet.”

Young people check-in at Mai street

Lots of art spaces at the festival

Perhaps what makes Mai Street and Ong Do Street so attractive each year is the combination and diversity of settings and spaces, so that young people can freely take pictures, experience and have fun, with all kinds of emotions.

And to create that complete feeling, it is impossible not to mention the traditional craft village spaces at the festival. This year, inspired by the beauty of Lai Thieu pottery village (Binh Duong), Dinh Yen mat village (Dong Thap), My An weaving village (An Giang) ... the traditional craft village spaces at the festival promise to attract curiosity and leave a good impression on visitors.

The craft village area has a kitchen and a red-tiled house typical of An Giang, with colorful flower pots from Sa Dec flower village (Dong Thap)... All are cleverly arranged and shaped, evoking a peaceful Tet space with cozy village roofs, fresh green trees in the golden sunshine, traditional poles and reunion houses in simple happiness... These spaces will bring spring visitors a new experience of craft villages with strong Vietnamese identity.

Calligrapher Street, a unique feature of Vietnamese Tet Festival

In particular, creating a bustling atmosphere throughout the festival are diverse art programs, from Southern folk performances, amateur music, Hue royal court music, ca tru, to lion-unicorn-dragon performances, traditional music and dance, youth bands, fashion shows, etc. These art activities not only bring the Tet atmosphere of the three regions, but also introduce to spring visitors some of Vietnam's intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO.

People can also enjoy the spring atmosphere by shopping and exploring the unique food stalls operating throughout the festival. Tet care programs for the disadvantaged and volunteer activities are also organized during the festival.

With many new features that have been carefully invested in, Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuc expects: "When coming to the festival, I believe that everyone will be happy, have joy and fresh energy from young people who are passing it on to each other in the new year."

The operating hours of the apricot blossom street and the calligraphy street of the Vietnamese Tet Festival this year are from 3:30 p.m. on January 13 to February 2 (the 5th day of the Lunar New Year). The program will be divided into different time periods: the festival space includes a combination of activities taking place from January 13 to 27 (through December 28), and will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day; it will be temporarily closed on December 29 and will continue to welcome guests from the 1st to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
