Ho Chi Minh City tourism is loved by many tourists and overseas Vietnamese
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, Ho Chi Minh City organizes many vibrant cultural activities and festivals such as: Vietnamese Tet Festival, Spring Homeland, Nguyen Hue Flower Street, Spring flower market "on the wharf, under the boat",... Many international delegations and overseas Vietnamese have chosen Ho Chi Minh City to welcome the New Year and experience traditional culture.
At tourist attractions in Ho Chi Minh City, the number of visitors for sightseeing, entertainment and recreation during Tet increased by 10% - 20% compared to the same period last year. The busiest period is from the 3rd to the 9th of Tet.
Returning to her homeland on the occasion of Lunar New Year after more than ten years abroad, Ms. Thanh Hau (a Vietnamese Canadian) was surprised and attracted by the tourism products of Ho Chi Minh City. Having experienced the entire metro line No. 1 and visited tourist attractions within the framework of the recent "Spring Homeland" program, Ms. Hau expressed her joy at the "transformation" of Ho Chi Minh City's infrastructure.
What left a strong impression on Mrs. Hau was the way Ho Chi Minh City does tourism in a modern way but still retains its traditional features. A typical example is the Suoi Tien Cultural Tourism Area, which has both a space for traditional Vietnamese games and modern entertainment spaces, and green tourism in the middle of a bustling city.
Ms. Thanh Hau, a Vietnamese Canadian, said: “I just told my family that this July, my grandchildren will visit Vietnam, so why go far? Suoi Tien Cultural Tourism Area will be the place I registered for them to go. I feel proud that there are many beautiful scenes in the heart of my city... Why go far, just coming here is already wonderful.”
Many new tourism products
“Spring on Binh Dong Wharf”; “Enjoying the Saigon River by double-decker river bus”; “Seeing the city all night on a double-decker open-top bus”… are new tourism products launched by travel and tourism companies in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of Tet this year.
Mr. Nguyen Khoa Luan, Director of Anh Viet Hop on Hop off Vietnam Company, said that not only does it bring a fresh color to Ho Chi Minh City tourism, but the introduction of double-decker buses to operate overnight city tours also contributes to the development of the night economy, by creating connections between service supply chains. During the peak of Tet, the number of tourists using this service increases sharply, causing businesses to always be overloaded, even though they are operating at full capacity.
"The Lunar New Year is our peak service period. This year, a special feature is that we serve all night. At night, the number of passengers is very large, many passengers have to wait. We have proposed to the city to allow this route to operate in the Cho Lon area, to expand the scope and enhance the experience for tourists," said Mr. Nguyen Khoa Luan.
Similarly, the tourism product called Saigon River Sightseeing on a double-decker boat (Saigon WaterGo) was put into operation before the new year 2024, and has now become a new "check-in" spot for domestic and foreign tourists.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Toan, Director of Thuong Nhat Company (the tour operator) was excited that water tourism has never been as popular as it is today: “We are very happy that during Tet, the river bus (Saigon water bus) welcomed more than 6,000 passengers/day. The Saigon WaterGo product, which specializes in serving the tourism segment, also welcomed 500 passengers/day, even though it is a new product. That shows that our creation of river joys (water tourism - PV) is suitable for the trends and needs of the city's residents and visitors from afar”.
According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, during the Tet holiday alone (lasting 7 days), Ho Chi Minh City tourism attracted about 75,000 international visitors, an increase of 15.4% over the same period in 2023. At the city's tourist attractions and entertainment services, it is estimated that there will be about 1.8 million visitors, an increase of 5.9% over the same period last year. Tourism revenue reached about 6,550 billion VND, an increase of 4% over the same period in 2023.
To achieve the 2024 goal of welcoming 44 million international and domestic visitors with a total revenue of VND 190,000 billion, the Ho Chi Minh City tourism industry has "outlined" many key activities and events to attract tourists. These include many activities to promote and advertise Ho Chi Minh City tourism in the markets of Australia, UK, Germany, USA... and increase recognition in international media such as: CNN, Discovery, BBC News...
