NDO - The Tourism Authority of Thailand estimates that during the 2025 Lunar New Year, the country welcomed more than 4 million international visitors, of which China is the largest market.
This year’s Lunar New Year marks a pivotal moment in Thailand’s post-Covid-19 recovery journey. With a surge in tourist arrivals, the Lunar New Year travel season has become a driving force for the country’s tourism industry to make a breakthrough in 2025.
During this occasion, the number of visitors entering Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports accounted for nearly 3 million arrivals, with nearly 12,000 flights. This figure increased by more than 14% compared to the 2024 Tet holiday.
Of the 4 million international visitors to Thailand during Tet, the largest number of Chinese visitors was over 770,000 (from January 24 to February 2).
Grasping the needs and tastes of international tourists, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has cooperated with local authorities and businesses to organize cultural events such as lantern festivals, opera performances...
At the same time, hotels and travel companies also launch many preferential programs for accommodation, dining and cultural discovery tours.
Many markets in this country are open during Tet to sell souvenirs and local specialties. Famous locations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya... also organize exciting art performances to serve domestic and foreign tourists.
Previously, the Tourism Authority of Thailand adjusted its target for visitors from Asian countries in 2025. Deputy Director General of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai said that the agency will focus on expanding the Northeast Asian market. The number of visitors from South Korea and Japan to the country is expected to increase compared to 2024.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand is currently preparing to promote the “Great Year of Tourism and Sports”. In 2025, Thailand aims to welcome 39 million international visitors, with tourism revenue expected to reach about one billion USD.
