Speaking to Kinh te va Do thi newspaper, Mr. Tran Hieu Hung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DTC) of Ca Mau province, said that although 2024 will face many difficulties, the Ca Mau tourism industry will still strive to reach a total of 2,350,000 tourists (including 13,000 international visitors) with a total tourism revenue of VND 3,480 billion.

Many improvements in 2023

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2023, Ca Mau has made breakthroughs to focus on developing tourism into an important economic sector of the province. In particular, the department has coordinated with units and localities to organize many cultural, sports, tourism and trade activities under the 2023 Tourism Promotion Program and the "Ca Mau - Destination 2023" event program such as: National Ancestor Gratitude Ceremony; Hung Kings' Commemoration Day; Southern Folk Cake Festival; "U Minh Forest Fragrance" event; Ca Mau Marathon 2023 - PETROVIETNAM Cup; Shrimp Festival 2023, Conference to summarize tourism cooperation activities between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta in 2023, with the theme "Enhancing linkage - Sustainable development" and a series of related activities...

Thereby, it has created conditions to stimulate demand, attract tourists from inside and outside the province to visit, shop and have fun. Thanks to tourism stimulus activities, the media work widely promoted and introduced the potential and strengths of tourism in the province, tourism has improved a lot, the number of visitors to Ca Mau increased again and gradually stabilized, and had a fairly good recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

From the above solutions, in 2023, the number of tourists to Ca Mau reached 2,078,399, an increase of 23.5% compared to 2022, exceeding the 2023 plan by 19%; total revenue reached VND 2,908 billion, an increase of 20.4% compared to 2022, exceeding the 2023 plan by 9%.

Long term strategy

According to Mr. Tran Hieu Hung, in 2024, to successfully complete the task of promoting the development of Ca Mau tourism, the industry needs long-term strategies. Accordingly, it will continue to complete the task of master planning for the construction of Mui Ca Mau National Tourism Area and develop a master planning project for the construction of Mui Ca Mau National Tourism Area; complete and effectively implement the Project on tourism development in Ca Mau province, period 2022-2025, orientation to 2030.

In addition, advise the Provincial People's Committee to develop and submit to the Provincial People's Council a resolution on policies to support investment in developing tourism products in Ca Mau province, to create motivation and attract tourism investment.

On the other hand, it is necessary to innovate promotion and communication work associated with technology application, promoting digital transformation of tourism with the theme "Transforming awareness and unifying action" according to the guidelines in the tourism industry.

In particular, focusing on upgrading information technology application software in tourism promotion, contributing to digital transformation in tourism development; focusing on supporting tourism businesses in the province to share tourism products on digital platforms so that tourists and businesses can easily interact, buy and sell products, and gradually deploy tourism ecosystems on digital platforms.

Promote internal strength

Promoting the strengths of 2023, Ca Mau tourism industry continues to develop and implement the tourism development plan for 2024, the program and event "Ca Mau - Destination" in 2024, integrating other local programs.

Regularly organize training and professional development courses for tour guides at the site; continue to direct units and coordinate with other provinces in the joint program to participate in tourism events organized by provinces and cities. “In addition, focus resources on building unique tourism products based on potential and advantages; improve service quality to meet the needs of tourists.

At the same time, strengthen guidance, inspection and recognition of ecotourism and community tourism units that meet the conditions according to the set of criteria for recognition of ecotourism and community tourism sites" - Mr. Tran Hieu Hung emphasized.

According to Mr. Tran Hieu Hung, in 2024, the Ca Mau tourism industry will create highlights from tourism programs with local characteristics. Accordingly, the "Ca Mau - Destination" Program 2024 is expected to be approved and put into implementation this March.

Through this event program, Ca Mau province aims to build a local image rich and diverse in potential, helping the province exploit opportunities and advantages for socio-economic development; linking tourism development and trade and service development, stimulating consumption of domestic goods, especially specialty goods and OCOP products.
