Experts say that the current supply of pepper in the global market is very scarce and demand is expected to continue to increase or remain stable. This will continue to push prices up.
According to the report of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Gia Lai province, there are currently about 7,500 hectares of pepper in the province with an average yield of about 3.5 tons/ha. The high price of pepper has helped people gain more profit and regain confidence in this agricultural product.
Gia Lai Province's Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection informed that in order to develop pepper plants stably in the coming time, Gia Lai will maintain a stable pepper growing area of about 8.5 - 10 thousand hectares. At the same time, it will build a concentrated, safe and quality pepper production area associated with processing facilities.

Global pepper prices have recorded a sharp increase since mid-2024 and are expected to continue to rise this year, due to a decline in pepper production and demand outstripping supply. In the short term, pepper prices may continue to rise. However, prices may correct as supplies from the new harvest begin to appear.
Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, President of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), stated that she is quite optimistic about the prospects of the global pepper market in 2025, as output is forecast to continue to decline and extreme weather conditions affect pepper productivity in many countries. This opens up opportunities for the export market, as China, although a small importer of pepper from Vietnam last year, is expected to increase its demand as Vietnam enters its main harvest this month.
According to industry experts, Vietnamese pepper prices could increase sharply by 40% to 50% compared to current levels.
