TPO - According to the planning, Dong Nai province has approved 4 projects to produce electricity from waste, of which the first phase of the household waste treatment plant to generate electricity in Vinh Tan commune with a capacity to treat 800 tons of waste/day and a power generation capacity of 20MW will be deployed first.

The project of the Domestic Waste Treatment Plant for Power Generation in Vinh Tan Commune, with a total investment of nearly 2.3 trillion VND, is divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 has a capacity to treat 800 tons of waste per day and a power generation capacity of 20MW; Phase 2 increases the waste treatment capacity to 1.2 thousand tons per day and the power generation capacity to 30MW.

According to the plan to implement the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Dong Nai province has approved 4 projects to produce electricity from waste: Vinh Tan Waste-to-Energy Plant Phase 1, capacity 20MW; Quang Trung Waste-to-Energy Plant, capacity 7.5MW; W2E Dong Nai Waste-to-Energy Plant Phase 1, capacity 20MW and Dinh Quan Waste-to-Energy Plant Phase 1, capacity 18.5MW.

These plants are all scheduled to be deployed and operated in the 2026-2030 period. This is the basis for the province to invite domestic and foreign investors to implement waste treatment projects to generate electricity, adding land for energy development to the planning and land use plan. At the same time, this is also the basis for the electricity industry to calculate investment in grid infrastructure and transformer stations to release capacity for the plants.

According to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dong Nai province, on average, Dong Nai province generates about 2 thousand tons of domestic waste every day.

Currently, 4 domestic waste treatment areas are operating in the province with sufficient capacity to handle the above waste volume. Of which, the waste treatment area in Quang Trung commune (Thong Nhat district) has a capacity of 1.2 thousand tons/day, the waste treatment area in Vinh Tan commune (Vinh Cuu district) has a capacity of 450 tons/day, the waste treatment area in Tuc Trung commune (Dinh Quan district) is about 110 tons/day and the treatment area in Xuan Tam (Xuan Loc district) is about 240 tons/day. Waste treatment is mainly carried out by landfill.

It is expected that by 2025, the amount of household waste will increase to about 2.5 thousand tons/day and by 2030 it will be 3.2 thousand tons/day.
