In recent years, besides youth training, Indonesia has also been very active in naturalizing players to increase the strength of the national teams.
Oratmangoen is one of the names targeted by PSSI.
Most recently, to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup taking place in early 2024, PSSI has aimed to naturalize a series of stars playing football in Europe.
The first name mentioned is goalkeeper Cyrus Margono. This “goalkeeper” is only 21 years old, 1m90 tall and is playing for Panathinaikos B Club in the Greek second division.
Cyrus Margono has an Indonesian father and an Iranian mother. Cyrus Margono himself wants to play for the Indonesian national team but is waiting to complete the naturalization procedures.
Besides, Mr. Hamdan Hamedan, the person in charge of finding mixed-race players for PSSI, affirmed that there are still many other players who can be naturalized as Indonesians.
These players are said to be ready to return to play for the archipelago team and PSSI's job is only to complete the naturalization paperwork.
“We still have many high-quality Indonesian players playing abroad.
Ragnar Oratmangoen (25 years old, Groningen FC, Netherlands) is a winger and now also plays as a defensive midfielder. He is very versatile.
Defender Million Manhoef (21 years old) of Vitesse Club. Or winger Justin Mathieu of Top Oss Club. All play football in the Netherlands", said Mr. Hamdan Hamedan.
In addition to the above names, Mr. Hamedan also pointed out three highly rated mixed-race players of Indonesian origin: Ragnar Oratmangoen, Jordy Wahermann and Jay Idzes.
"I am very familiar with the players Ragnar Oratmangoen, Jordy Wahermann and Jay Idzes. I know their quality well.
The problem is, the naturalization story depends on PSSI. If PSSI wants, I can support to improve the performance of the national team,” Mr. Hamedan declared.
At the 2023 Asian Cup, Indonesia fell into a very difficult group with the presence of Vietnam, Japan and Iraq.
