On January 26, 2021, the Prime Minister issued Decision 127/QD-TTg on the National Strategy on Research, Development and Application of Artificial Intelligence to 2030 to make AI an important technology field in Vietnam, making Vietnam a center for innovation, developing strong AI solutions and applications.
This contributes to promoting a creative society, effective government, protecting national security, maintaining social order and safety, and promoting sustainable economic growth.
Specifically, with this goal, Vietnam will be among the top 4 countries in the ASEAN region and the top 50 countries in the world in AI research, development and application, building 10 prestigious AI brands in the region and developing 3 national centers for big data storage and high-performance computing...
Vietnam also aims to form 3 national AI innovation centers and have at least 1 representative in the ranking of the top 20 AI research and training institutions in the ASEAN region.
Currently, the "leading cranes" of the Vietnamese technology industry such as VNPT, Viettel, FPT have been developing the AI sector very strongly in the process of building a digital transformation ecosystem providing solutions for digital government, e-health, e-education, 4.0 technology, digital enterprises, and smart cities.
The most “popular” AI product is virtual assistants, as these technology companies all develop their own virtual assistants, focusing on segments where they have an advantage.
Virtual assistants are applied in many fields in Vietnam today such as electronic identification, traffic monitoring, medical assistants for doctors, search assistants for ministries and branches, social network listening, customer and citizen care, and decision support.

VNPT's AI ecosystem is built from more than 100 AI engines researched and mastered by the unit itself. Some AI models such as facial recognition model, real-fake face detection model, optical character recognition model all have an accuracy of up to 99.9999%.
In particular, VNPT is currently the only unit in the world's Top 15 in the KIOSK - FRVT 1:1 category and the world's Top 10 in the KIOSK - FRVT 1:N category (diverse faces of skin color and ethnicity) of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, and has achieved ISO/IEC 30107-3 certification from iBeta - a member of the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online Alliance) association.
This result affirms that the quality of VNPT AI's products and services can compete at the world level, marking technological advancement and maturity, creating trust for customers in using artificial intelligence technology products Made in Vietnam.
Most recently, VNPT has also made progress in applying AI to the medical field. Specifically, the Group has cooperated with the Central Endocrinology Hospital to apply AI to cancer diagnosis solutions, support the localization of lesions if any, assess the extent of damage and provide assessments based on the TIRADS scale for doctors.
At Viettel, some outstanding artificial intelligence technology application solutions are Cyberbot, Reputa and Voice note.
In it, Cyberbot can communicate with customers through natural language, automatically answering in text the questions that customers ask.
This Chatbot helps improve customer experience and reduce waiting time. An upgraded version of Chatbot, interacting with humans through voice based on Speech Synthesis and Recognition technology platform. Callbot brings natural experiences like interacting with a real person, helping to increase customer satisfaction.
Reputa is a reputation monitoring system, market listening, and communication and brand effectiveness evaluation for individuals, organizations, and businesses. Voice Note helps automatically convert Vietnamese conversations into text in real time.
The highlight of Viettel AI is the conversation processing technology with Vietnamese voice quality up to 96% similar to real human voice, effectively handling the problem of regional dialects.
Another famous AI product of Viettel is the Legal Virtual Assistant, which owns a very large industry knowledge base system. This legal knowledge database allows users to easily and quickly look up legal documents, supporting litigation activities.
Unlike conventional search systems, legal virtual assistants can provide guidance on legal documents and case law; provide guidance on handling specific legal situations; introduce similar court judgments and decisions for reference; assist judges in performing litigation activities; and in the future, they will be able to assist in making judicial judgments.
Similarly, FPT.AI is currently providing 4 products: 2-way interactive automatic switchboard virtual assistant, Virtual assistant promoting interaction between businesses and customers through multi-channel virtual assistant, Voice to text and text to speech conversion; and automatic recognition and extraction of information from images.
Resources to build an AI assistant include people, infrastructure, knowledge and strategy. According to VNPT experts, their current resources are more than 120 AI experts and more than 5,000 IT engineers. GPU infrastructure processes trillions of calculations per second and Big Data infrastructure performs 100 billion events per day.
At the recent event, FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh said that Vietnam can build a solid position in AI and FPT is focusing on expanding its artificial intelligence sector. FPT has signed a cooperation agreement with US company Landing AI to enhance its training capacity. They have also entered into negotiations with AI giant Nvidia and other Vietnamese companies to use AI for cloud storage, healthcare and other applications.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Cuong, Director of VNPT AI, said that AI products in the world today face a number of problems, including the accuracy of output, data security, data update level and dependency when used. Therefore, Vietnamese AI assistants should develop in depth for a specific industry, field or task.
