Trillion-dollar medicine
Over the past four years, scientists have evaluated and screened the potential biological effects of Vietnamese Polyscias fruticosa species and identified active chemical components from selected samples. The results have made important contributions to the sustainable development of the value chain from Polyscias fruticosa, especially Polyscias fruticosa, a familiar species in the Vietnamese pharmacopoeia.
The research results not only supplement and upgrade the quality standards for medicinal herbs from roots, stems, leaves, and extracts of ginseng, but also open up many new research directions for the development of medicinal resources from other ginseng species such as large-leaf ginseng, round-leaf ginseng, and round-leaf ginseng.
Dr. Nguyen Huy Van, Deputy General Director of Traphaco, shared: "With the vision of "Unleashing Vietnamese values", Traphaco is committed to continuing to invest and develop products from ginseng, contributing to the sustainable development of the Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry.

Small-leafed Polyscias fruticosa (L.) Harms, with the scientific name Polyscias fruticosa (L.) Harms, belongs to the ginseng family (Araliaceae), and is present in many countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, India... and throughout Vietnam.
In folk medicine, ginseng has been used for hundreds of years. The main chemical components of ginseng include alkaloids, glucosides, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, vitamin B1 and 13 amino acids. In Vietnam, there are 7 species of the genus Polyscias but only one species is commonly exploited and used, which is small-leaf ginseng. Ginseng has been known for many effects such as brain tonic, liver protection, anti-inflammatory and supporting the treatment of metabolic diseases.
Traphaco has expanded its cultivation scale to more than 300 hectares of ginseng, with an annual consumption output of more than 2,000 tons. Ginseng is increasingly asserting its position in the medicinal industry. It is expected that the total value of ginseng products will reach about 5,000 billion VND by 2025, opening up great potential for medicinal products in Vietnam.

With many years of research and development of ginseng, Mr. Nguyen Huy Van, Deputy General Director of Traphaco Joint Stock Company, added that Traphaco has built and developed ginseng growing areas in many localities such as Nam Dinh, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, and Dak Lak. These growing areas are carefully selected based on criteria such as soil conditions, climate, and the growth ability of ginseng.
In particular, the growing areas in Hai Hau and Nghia Hung districts (Nam Dinh province) are considered ideal thanks to their fertile, unpolluted soil and favorable conditions for the sustainable development of ginseng. Studies show that ginseng in these two localities has optimal active ingredient content.
Many years of prestige with the brand Hoat Huyet Duong Nao honored as National Brand for many years, holding the leading market share in the Central nerve tonic market, Traphaco Joint Stock Company continues to use the precious medicinal herb ginseng in researching and producing new high-end brain tonic products.
