Some of the features included in One UI 7 will require more powerful hardware, which could mean they won't be available on some older Galaxy phones. Now, a Samsung representative has made a comment that hints at the absence of one of the One UI 7 features that users of older Galaxy phones won't get.
Now Brief is a prominent AI feature on One UI 7
In an interview on Samsung Indonesia's website, Sally - Executive Vice President and Head of R&D at Samsung MX - said the company spent 2-3 years planning, designing and developing One UI 7. She emphasized that some features, especially those that support artificial intelligence (AI), require modern hardware to work effectively.
Many One UI 7 features require powerful hardware to work optimally
According to Sally, one of the standout features of One UI 7 is Now Brief, which allows users to receive relevant information based on the time of day. This feature is powered by Samsung's Personal Data Engine, which requires an advanced chip with a powerful NPU. "This feature requires powerful processing power to deliver an optimal experience," Sally shared.
Conversely, some other AI features like Circle to Search may work on older Galaxy devices because they rely heavily on cloud services and are less demanding on device performance.
The Samsung representative also pledged to continue to consider the needs of users on low-cost devices, ready to provide cloud-based AI features so they can be used without requiring advanced hardware.
At the moment, Now Brief only works on the Galaxy S25, and it's unclear if it will make it to the Galaxy S24. Samsung is working to bring many of One UI 7's features to all Galaxy phones, as long as they can be implemented at the software level. However, features that require powerful hardware won't be available on devices that don't qualify.
