On February 19, US President Donald Trump said he was considering giving 20% of the savings from the initiative of the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and billionaire Elon Musk to the American people.
President Trump considers giving money to people after completing streamlining the apparatus and reducing spending on departments
The possibility of distributing money to people was mentioned by President Trump at a meeting of global financial and technology leaders in Miami (Florida), according to AFP on February 20.
In addition, the White House owner also said he is considering using another 20% to pay off the federal government's public debt.
"We are considering a new concept that would give 20% of the savings from the DOGE initiative to American citizens, and another 20% to pay down the national debt," Trump said.
The proposal was originally made by an American businessman named James Fishback, according to a post on his X account (formerly Twitter name). The post caught the attention of billionaire Elon Musk, who responded: "Will check this possibility with the President."
Mr. Fishback, CEO of investment firm Azoria Partners, is in contact with the Trump administration about the possibility of implementing the proposal in practice, according to Reuters on February 19, citing a source familiar with the matter.
The American businessman proposed dividing 20% of the savings from the DOGE initiative, which he himself calculated to be around $400 billion, into $5,000 checks to be distributed to every household in the US after the streamlining of the federal government is completed in July 2026.

The above calculation comes from the perspective that DOGE can save 2,000 billion USD, which according to billionaire Musk is the best possible result, while the target within reach is 1,000 billion USD.
The effort to cut government spending is also expected to save taxpayers $8.5 billion a year.
