Proposal to demolish the collapsed bridge in Hoa Binh, quickly build a new bridge
Báo Tiền Phong•20/09/2024
TPO - Ngoi Mong Bridge (Hoa Binh City) has been used for many years and has been affected by floods and rains, and has now sunk and become damaged. The Department of Transport of Hoa Binh Province has proposed to ban all vehicles from passing through here and demolish the bridge to ensure safety.
At around 3:00 a.m. on September 19, Ngoi Mong bridge located on provincial road 445 (in the direction of Ky Son - Pheo Che ward) in group 2, Ky Son ward, Hoa Binh city collapsed and slid towards the stream bed.
On the morning of September 20, according to Tien Phong Newspaper reporters, Ngoi Mong Bridge had sunk quite deeply on one side, causing the road surface to be about 2m higher than the bridge surface.
Therefore vehicles cannot move through.
At the same time, the bridge abutments on both sides of the stream are showing signs of cracking and sliding down into the stream bed.
Some bridge spans are misaligned and no longer connected.
To ensure people's safety, authorities have erected barriers and ropes to prohibit people from approaching Ngoi Mong bridge.
According to people living near the bridge, when the incident happened, they only heard a rumble but did not see any shaking of the house. Fortunately, no one was passing by at the time so there were no casualties.
At the time of recording, next to Ngoi Mong bridge, there is a bridge item under the urgent project of flood prevention and control dyke Pheo - Che downstream of Da river, Ky Son district (now Hoa Binh city) under construction.
Previously, on the afternoon of September 19, after the Ngoi Mong bridge incident, the Department of Transport of Hoa Binh province sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee. The cause of the incident was the impact of heavy rain and floods and the opening and closing of the bottom spillway gate of Hoa Binh Hydropower Company, which caused the stream water to flow rapidly, causing severe erosion of the stream bed and the bottom of the bridge foundation.
Accordingly, the Department of Transport proposed to request the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province to prohibit all people and vehicles from traveling through Ngoi Mong bridge; divert traffic through provincial road 445 according to the plan of National Highway 6 - Hoa Lac road to Hoa Binh (Km28+150) - provincial road 445 (Km0+430) and vice versa (for trucks with a load capacity of less than 1.5 tons and passenger cars with less than 7 seats).
At the same time, the Department proposed to stop exploiting and using the old bridge; dismantle the remaining construction to avoid causing danger to people and vehicles traveling on and under the bridge.
Regarding the bridge under construction under the urgent project of flood prevention and control dyke Pheo - Che downstream of Da River, Hoa Binh City, the Provincial People's Committee is requested to consider and direct relevant units to speed up the progress of site clearance and construction to serve the safe travel needs of the people.
