With the potential advantages of natural conditions, Lao Cai province aims to develop safe vegetable production areas with high food hygiene and safety quality. Aiming to maintain and develop concentrated specialized vegetable areas by 2030 to reach over 2,400 hectares.
In order to ensure sustainable agricultural development, Lao Cai province has identified the development of safe and concentrated vegetable production areas, ensuring traceability, linked to processing and consumption markets, gradually moving towards export, contributing to ensuring food security, food safety and hygiene and improving public health... This is the key goal of Lao Cai province's agricultural sector towards 2030.
In particular, maintaining and developing the concentrated specialized vegetable growing area in the whole province by 2030 will reach over 2,400 hectares, specifically the area of safe, concentrated vegetables, ensuring traceability of origin will reach over 30% of the total cultivated area; output will reach over 71,000 tons. Prioritizing the development of key vegetable and fruit groups: All kinds of cabbage, legumes and other vegetable groups (chayote, tomatoes, native vegetables, etc.). In particular, it is expected that the group of cabbages will account for about 60% of the area, legumes will account for 10% of the area and other vegetable groups will account for about 30% of the area. Expanding the area of vegetables produced according to standards and regulations (VietGAP, organic, Global GAP, etc.) Concentrated mainly in the towns and districts: Sa Pa, Bac Ha, Bat Xat, Si Ma Cai, Bao Thang.
Build 3-5 pilot models, cooperatives, and safe vegetable production groups, concentrated, with investment in facilities and certified to meet the conditions for safe vegetable production, ensuring traceability associated with processing and consumption markets. At the same time, improve the level, awareness and responsibility of producers in using safe and quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides; improve competitiveness, provide safe food, and protect consumers' health.
To ensure traceability associated with processing and consumption markets in Lao Cai province by 2030, the People's Committees of districts, cities, relevant departments and branches are responsible for promoting support for businesses, cooperatives and households to build brands for safe vegetable products, build OCOP products, and assign growing area codes so that consumers can easily update information about products; promote activities connecting supply and demand, exhibitions, promotions, trade promotion... so that consumers have enough information about Lao Cai province's vegetable products.
High quality green vegetable fields in Lao Cai city
Building infrastructure, supporting sample analysis costs and VietGAP certification costs and trade promotion costs for vegetable farmers; building product brands, registering geographical indications, growing area codes, vegetable, flower and fruit processing facility codes. Strengthening guidance and support for localities, organizations and individuals to promote: Certification of vegetable and fruit products meeting safety standards (VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic)...
Exploit the advantages of single-crop rice fields, arrange for additional crops, early and off-season crops to increase value and economic efficiency; select vegetable varieties with good consumption markets and high economic value; arrange appropriate planting times to increase product value. Develop a scientific crop rotation formula, do not plant the same crop multiple times in an area, do not plant crops of the same family on the same land area to reduce pests and diseases, rotate legumes with other crops to improve the soil; arrange planting in concentrated, specialized and commodity areas; apply technical advances to production such as using new varieties with high productivity and quality, using greenhouses, membrane houses, technology houses, irrigation systems, etc. into production.
Arrange off-season planting and additional planting on single-crop rice fields with valuable vegetable varieties and specialty vegetables such as chayote, cat cabbage, cabbage, broccoli, kohlrabi, cauliflower, peas, tomatoes, cabbage... in mountainous districts such as Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai, Muong Khuong, Bat Xat.
Closely coordinate with enterprises and cooperatives to build vegetable growing areas, prioritizing concentrated areas; promote the formation of vegetable production chains from building growing areas to processing and consuming products; select and create new vegetable varieties with high yield, good quality, and resistance to pests and diseases; collect, preserve, and restore local varieties; provide enough vegetable varieties with high quality and economic value for the development needs of the province's safe vegetable area...
Promote agricultural extension work to quickly transfer scientific and technological advances and organize production according to standards and traceability; build technology transfer models such as: Smart technology, growing on substrates, water-saving irrigation, using microbial and organic fertilizers, using biological pesticides, applying integrated crop management processes, integrated plant health management, etc.
