As a leading economic development agency, Ho Chi Minh City has taken the lead in strengthening tourism links with many provinces and cities in the southern region, creating impressive tours, routes and tourism product chains. Reporters from the People's Army Newspaper had an interview with Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, on this issue.
Reporter (PV) : Ho Chi Minh City is a locality with many advantages in tourism development, can you share about this?
Comrade Le Truong Hien Hoa: Ho Chi Minh City has many favorable conditions for tourism development. In particular, the period of urban formation and development over 325 years has helped Ho Chi Minh City form many heritages, historical-cultural relics, and a very rich, diverse, and colorful life. In particular, the system of revolutionary historical relics was formed during the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism.
The system of canals and ditches with historical conditions has created the characteristics of a river city very early on, becoming a destination for trade, living and doing business for many people, creating a multicultural, open, generous, liberal and affectionate identity.
In recent years, with the conditions of urban development, Ho Chi Minh City has many travel agencies, providing many types of tourism services, investing in a system of accommodation facilities, connecting utility services, creating a supply chain of tourism products for the city and domestic and international localities.

PV : How has Ho Chi Minh City's tourism industry promoted its advantages, sir?
Comrade Le Truong Hien Hoa: Tourism is one of the key economic sectors of Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has paid close attention and directed, assigning the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism to implement programs to effectively exploit existing potential, deploy inter-regional tourism services, and enhance the experience for tourists. Since 2019, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has implemented a program of cooperation in tourism development between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta; the provinces of the North Central, Southeast, Northwest... achieving many positive results, creating strong spillover.
For example, in 2022, the total number of visitors to the Mekong Delta reached more than 44 million (up 201.2% over the same period in 2021), with revenue reaching nearly 34,000 billion VND (up 217% over the same period in 2021). Tourism creates jobs for tens of thousands of people; promotes the development of many industries and professions... That growth is largely due to the tourism linkage program between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. Travel agencies and tourism service businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have played a very important role in connecting and serving tourists to localities. Transport businesses of many types have very effective tourism stimulus programs...
PV : Can you share more specifically the forms and solutions that create efficiency from inter-regional tourism linkages?
Comrade Le Truong Hien Hoa: Linking tourism between Ho Chi Minh City and other regions and localities is a correct policy, taking advantage of Ho Chi Minh City's advantages and meeting the needs of domestic and international tourists. These programs are associated with coordination programs, specific solutions on building destinations, tourism products, linking supply, improving the quality of tourism services, enhancing the experience for tourists; coordinating to promote domestic and international tourism, linking technology applications for tourism, linking interactive tourism maps, electronic news sites, social networks... The connection between localities is increasingly tight, creating a spreading effect, affirming high efficiency in promoting sustainable tourism development between Ho Chi Minh City and other regions and areas in the coming time.
