2024 is the first year that the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam will attend and deliver a speech at the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting held in Italy. The presence of Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien has left a deep impression of Vietnam in the eyes of international friends when attending this important conference.
Successful economic growth models need to be replicated
The expanded G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting, chaired by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tanjani, will take place in July 2024.
This is the first time the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting has invited the Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade to attend. This is important both politically and diplomatically, demonstrating the orientation of the Chair country that does not want the G7 to be just a meeting of the world's leading developed economies, but needs to expand dialogue and cooperation as Vietnam has done in the past.
“The fact that the G7 countries have expanded the number of participants in the 2024 conference, including Vietnam, is meaningful in affirming the correctness of the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification that Vietnam has effectively implemented in the past and has been recognized, highly appreciated and desired to be replicated by the international community, including the G7 countries,” said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Italy Duong Hai Hung.

Adding strength to the above statement, in his opening speech at the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting, when introducing the guest countries attending the Conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Antonio Tanjani shared that Vietnam is a successful model in economic growth, so it has a lot of experience to share with the conference about efforts in economic development through diversifying the supply chain.
He also emphasized that Vietnam is a “bright example”, a successful model of economic growth based on the achievements of the international economic integration process. From there, it promotes trade and attracts investment, successfully participates in the globalization process and reshapes regional and international supply chains.
Also at that conference, the WTO Director General assessed and recognized that Vietnam and a number of other developing members are a testament to the success of the international integration process and a typical successful example of implementing supply chain diversification.
Sharing from Vietnam...
Notably, during the opening session of the conference, the host country Italy devoted about 10 minutes for Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien to speak, focusing on cooperation priorities with G7 member countries, expanding the G7 in many aspects.
The Minister said that for a developing country like Vietnam, trade liberalization is considered an important solution and the main driving force for development. Over the past 40 years, from a country that had just emerged from war and was underdeveloped, Vietnam has become one of the 40 largest economies in the world; in the top 20 in international trade, top 15 in attracting foreign investment and top 45 in the Innovation Index.

The above achievements are due to Vietnam's consistent implementation of an independent, self-reliant, diversified and multilateral foreign policy; proactively and actively integrating deeply, comprehensively, practically and effectively into the international community; taking internal resources as fundamental, strategic, long-term and decisive and external resources as important breakthroughs; promoting the implementation of three strategic solutions: on institutions, infrastructure and human resources. At the same time, promoting development based on science, technology and innovation.
From the perspective of a country that is increasingly integrating into the regional and global economy, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said that today's world needs close and substantive cooperation in a number of aspects.
First, promote more substantive and effective global partnerships. Persistently pursue multilateral cooperation, considering it the key to solving all complex challenges that arise.
Second, in the face of the increasing trend of applying trade protection measures, subsidies or erecting technical barriers to promote domestic production to replace imports, Vietnam calls on the G7 and its partners to immediately limit the establishment of trade barriers, especially non-tariff measures that disrupt supply chains for essential goods.
Third, let's work together to build a self-reliant, flexible and sustainable supply chain, which is considered the "lifeblood" of every economy and plays an important role in ensuring the smooth flow of trade in goods and services.
Listening to the enthusiastic speeches of Minister Nguyen Hong Dien at the conference, Ambassador Duong Hai Hung said that these were the shares about Vietnam's vision, approach, and lessons learned, reinforced by practical achievements. These are also important added values that Vietnam brings to Italy and wants to convey to international partners and friends. Not only that, the sharing of Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also contributed to the overall success of the conference.
