Imprint of Vietnamese enterprises with scientific and technological products meeting international standards

Currently, Vietnamese science and technology enterprises account for only 1% of the total of more than 900,000 enterprises nationwide, but there are brands known to the world thanks to their exclusive technology and unique products. Science and technology enterprises increasingly have more products and services commercialized in the domestic market and exported to many large markets such as the US, Europe, China, Japan, Korea... In the Vietnam Association of Science and Technology Enterprises (VST) alone, there are many famous brands such as: Busadco, Sao Thai Duong, Vinaseed, ThaiBinh seed, Tien Nong, Minh Long, Savipharm...

Vietnamese science and technology enterprises have been affirming their position not only domestically but also internationally. One of the typical examples is Sao Thai Duong Joint Stock Company (Sao Thai Duong) - an excellent enterprise in the field of research and production of medicinal products for health care. With products that meet international standards, Sao Thai Duong has won many prestigious awards and become one of the typical brands in the field of science and technology in Vietnam.

Sao Thai Duong always focuses on investing in research and application of science and technology in inheriting and promoting the quintessence of traditional Vietnamese medicine as well as applying biotechnology according to the methodology of the World Health Organization.

In any field, along with the history of human development, wherever, when science and technology develop, special inventions, innovations and creations that are strongly applied all have a great influence on the rest of the world.

From the policies and guidelines of the Party and State leaders; policies of the Government, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health and instructions of agencies and branches, Sao Thai Duong has focused on scientific research, innovation, thoroughly applying scientific and technological achievements in production and business to meet the daily needs of people as well as respond to especially complicated situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks to that, Sao Thai Duong's unique product lines have gradually conquered large markets such as the US, UK, Europe, and China. Brands such as Thai Duong, Nature Queen, SUNKOVIR medicine, Thai Duong ginger oil, etc. are favored by many international customers. The company had the honor of welcoming the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo Iweala to visit in May 2023.

With a solid scientific foundation and commitment to quality, the company has achieved proud achievements, not only in the domestic market but also in international markets. Sao Thai Duong is a prominent example introduced on the official website of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO); attending the first Global Summit on Traditional Medicine co-organized by WHO and the Government of India in August 2023. Recently, at the 5th international conference on the future of preventive medicine and public health, gathering more than 100 leading medical experts from many countries, taking place in London, UK, Sao Thai Duong left many impressions when sharing the results of preclinical and phase 2 clinical research of the formula TD0019 - Sao Thai Duong's neck and shoulder pills.

Sao Thai Duong's report emphasized and pointed out the effectiveness of the formula in helping to improve neck-shoulder-arm syndrome, increase blood circulation, reduce symptoms of neck and shoulder pain, reduce the risk of thrombosis and embolism. The report also pointed out that the product is safe in two models of acute and subchronic toxicity, effective in pain relief, acute anti-inflammatory and chronic anti-inflammatory models in experimental animals.

Previously, in August 2024, at the international conference on integrative medicine, natural and traditional care therapies, and plant science held in Milan, Italy, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Van - Deputy General Director of Sao Thai Duong, on behalf of the Vietnamese research team of the project on research on herbal products for the prevention and treatment of thrombosis, presented a report.

The results showed that the product is not only safe, effective in preventing and dissolving blood clots through many mechanisms, but also especially effective in treating myocardial infarction. The research project also showed the role of traditional medicine and Vietnamese herbal products in solving difficult problems in medicine and was of interest to the conference attendees.

After more than 20 years of establishment and development, up to now, Sao Thai Duong Joint Stock Company has 14 exclusive patents. The research project Sunkovir - a drug to treat seasonal flu, COVID-19 and respiratory viruses led by MSc., Pharmacist Nguyen Thi Huong Lien also made a splash at the Pharma R&D new drug research conference held in February 2024 in Boston, USA.

As a herbal product, Sunkovir helps to quickly reduce symptoms of cough, fever, shortness of breath, loss of smell, taste, nasal congestion, and body aches. The product won second prize in the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award (Vifotech).

This is a breakthrough product, because for the first time, a herbal medicine has been proven safe and effective and licensed for the treatment of COVID-19. Three clinical studies of the product have been posted on the online library used by scientific researchers and students as a reference tool and more than 700 other international articles have been reported.

Great opportunity from Resolution 57

According to Ms. Huong Lien, the achievements of Sao Thai Duong and science and technology enterprises in general, in addition to the efforts and spirit of continuous innovation of each enterprise, are thanks to the leadership of the Party, the State, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, which have paid attention to directing and orienting through directives, policies, and building guidelines for implementing policies to encourage and support the application of science and technology towards enterprises developing science and technology.

The Party and State of Vietnam have deeply recognized the importance of science and technology in promoting economic development. Many policies have been issued to enhance the capacity for research and application of science and technology in production and business, especially in the fields of high technology and innovation.

One of the notable policies in the field of science and technology today is Resolution 57-NQ/TW issued by the Politburo at the end of last year. According to Resolution 57, the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation is considered a top important breakthrough, the main driving force for the country to develop rapidly and become rich in the new era. To institutionalize Resolution 57 into practice, the National Assembly issued Resolution 193 with 12 pilot mechanisms and policies to create breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

These policies will create great opportunities for science and technology enterprises to develop and expand their operations, not only in the domestic market but also internationally.

According to Ms. Huong Lien, in the current rapidly changing and fiercely competitive world economic environment, the scientific community and science and technology enterprises, including Sao Thai Duong, hope to continue to receive deeper, more specific and comprehensive attention from leaders at all levels of the Party, State and the Ministry of Science and Technology. Thereby, contributing to soon making Vietnam strong, truly on par with the world powers.
