On March 21, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) said the terrorist threat to the country has increased due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas and a series of Koran burnings in 2023.

PET rated the threat level at 4/5. Similarly, Sweden also raised its terror alert level, saying it had prevented jihadist attacks since the Koran burning incident last year.
According to PET, the Israel-Hamas conflict is currently a concern for many people, including people living in Denmark. This conflict has the potential for radicalization, including the risk of terrorist attacks.
In 2023, individuals desecrated the Koran in Denmark and Sweden, making the two countries targets of criticism in several Muslim countries. According to national police data, Denmark recorded 483 cases of Koran damage between July 21 and October 24, 2023.
In an effort to ease tensions with Muslim countries, last December the Danish Parliament passed a law criminalizing the burning, tearing or desecration of religious texts.
