NGHE AN Ambassador Knapper visited Kim Lien Relic Site for the first time and was moved to learn about President Ho Chi Minh's childhood life in Sen Village.

On September 27, US Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper visited the Kim Lien National Special Relic Site, Kim Lien and Nam Giang communes, Nam Dan district, during his visit and working visit to Nghe An province.

This is a relic complex associated with President Ho Chi Minh's childhood, and is one of the most famous destinations in Nghe An province.

Kim Lien is a memorial site of President Ho Chi Minh, located in Kim Lien and Nam Giang communes, about 15 km from Vinh city, attracting more than 2 million visitors each year.

This is the first time the Kim Lien relic site has welcomed a US Ambassador. The visit takes place in the context of Vietnam and the US strengthening cooperation in various fields after establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Ambassador Knapper with a flower basket offered to President Ho Chi Minh at the relic site. He and his entourage listened to the tour guide explain about President Ho Chi Minh's hometown, family, and childhood.

Kim Lien relic site consists of many relic clusters, each cluster has smaller items.

The Hoang Tru relic complex covers an area of about 3,500 square meters, where President Ho Chi Minh was born and spent 5 years of his childhood. It has main points such as the Hoang Xuan family branch church, President Ho Chi Minh's maternal family, the 5-room house of his maternal grandparents and the 3-room house of Mr. Pho Bang Nguyen Sinh Sac, President Ho Chi Minh's father.

Mr. Tran Khanh Thuc, Director of Nghe An Department of Foreign Affairs (right corner) introduces to Ambassador Knapper about the items in the Kim Lien Special National Relic Site.

The US Ambassador then walked to visit the Lang Sen relic complex, where there is a thatched house of the family of Vice-Chancellor Nguyen Sinh Sac, which preserves mementos of President Ho Chi Minh's childhood from 1901 to 1906 and the two times President Ho visited his hometown in 1957 and 1961.

There are also some nearby relics such as Nguyen Sinh Nham's house, Coc well, Co Dien forge, Lang Sen temple, and banyan tree.

When entering the cottage, Ambassador Knapper asked the tour guide: "Is the life of President Ho Chi Minh's family different from that of the people in the village?"

When listening to the tour guide answer that President Ho Chi Minh's family always maintained a simple lifestyle and was affectionate with everyone, Ambassador Knapper nodded, expressing admiration and emotion.

According to the tour guide of Kim Lien relic site, Ambassador Knapper is very knowledgeable about the life and background of President Ho Chi Minh. When leaving this place, he always raised both hands to express his admiration.

The Ambassador then went to Vinh City Martyrs Cemetery. He and some members of the US Embassy studied the names of the martyrs engraved on the stone tablets.

He burned incense at a grave in the martyrs' cemetery.

In January, Ambassador Knapper visited the National Martyrs Cemetery on Route 9 in Ward 4, Dong Ha City, to offer incense to the martyrs. He said such occasions help “revisit the painful history between the two countries, recalling the losses of both the American and Vietnamese people.”

Ambassador Knapper then worked with the Nghe An Province Veterans Association. He met and shook hands with Major General Nguyen Sy Hoi, Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Association.

Ambassador Knapper shared with the veterans that the Vietnam-US relationship is very good in all fields, opening up many opportunities for cooperation after the two countries upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

On the same morning, Ambassador Knapper paid a courtesy call to Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung (4th from left).

The Ambassador said the visit further deepens the US relationship with Vietnam in general and Nghe An province in particular, while opening up opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in areas such as workforce training and high technology.

Vietnam and the United States established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during President Joe Biden's visit on September 10-11.

At a press conference on September 13, Ambassador Knapper said the US has demonstrated its commitment to cooperating with Vietnam in a range of important areas, such as science, technology, semiconductors, education and training, and human resource development, with the goal of ensuring Vietnam has the human resources to meet the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.
