Ho Chi Minh City National University has just issued a visiting professor program. This unit is determined to invite 100 people to be appointed as visiting professors for 5 years. The invitees must sign a 5-year working contract at Ho Chi Minh City National University or at least 1 year, then continue to renew. In the immediate future, in 2025 and 2026, this unit plans to invite and appoint 50 people.
Who is invited to be a visiting professor?
According to Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, those invited to be visiting professors are individuals working at universities and research institutes. They must have at least 10 years of teaching or research experience if they only have a doctorate, or are currently professors or associate professors at prestigious universities and institutes.
For individuals working at international corporations and organizations, they must have at least 10 years of practical experience, holding important roles such as technical expert, manager or head of research and development team, have experience in managing or participating in large projects, especially projects with innovation or technology application elements.
According to Mr. Quan, Ho Chi Minh City National University prioritizes inviting visiting professors in the fields of Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Semiconductor Chips, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation, Materials Technology, New Energy, New Logistics, International Finance, Climate Change and Sustainable Development, History, and Vietnamese Culture.
Open work, competitive regime
Visiting professors only need to work directly at VNU-HCM for 10 days, the rest of the time they work remotely. They will be appointed by the Director of VNU-HCM, and will be supported with legal procedures, visas, immigration procedures, travel expenses, and accommodation expenses during their working time. They will receive competitive remuneration based on teaching hours, co-directed research, and other activities.
VNU-HCM will also support research through the mechanism of co-directors or members participating in project topics. The visiting professor himself will have access to facilities, laboratories, and other resource systems for teaching and research.
Ho Chi Minh City National University expects 100 visiting professors to contribute to the university in teaching, innovative scientific research, domestic and international cooperation and community service. They will contribute to building and improving talent training programs at the university level, focusing on priority areas; Training in modern teaching methods, combining technology and practice, improving the quality of learning for students; Directly participating in teaching specialized subjects and short-term courses; Directly advising and guiding graduate students.

Mr. Vu Hai Quan said that this February, Ho Chi Minh City National University will establish a selection council. This unit will receive and evaluate applications in March and April, and make an appointment decision in May.
The appointment of visiting professors of the National University is part of the VNU350 program. Previously, this program has attracted dozens of PhDs to return to the country with many preferential policies. For young scientists, in the first 2 years, they will be granted 1 scientific research topic of type C (budget of 200 million VND); in the third year, they will be granted 1 scientific research topic of type B (maximum budget of 1 billion); in the fourth year, they will be supported to invest in laboratories for scientific research, with a maximum budget of 10 billion VND; in the fifth year, they will be supported and guided in procedures and processes for considering and recognizing them as meeting the standards for the title of Associate Professor at the State level.
For leading scientists, in the first 2 years, they will be granted a type B scientific research project (maximum budget of 1 billion VND). In the following years, they will be supported to invest in laboratories for scientific research, with a maximum budget of 30 billion VND; they will be supported to establish strong research groups and register to preside over projects at all levels. In addition to the above benefits, they will receive salaries and bonuses according to regulations.
