On February 12, information from Ho Chi Minh City National University said that this unit will continue to consider admission based on high school transcripts.
Previously, in October 2024, Ho Chi Minh City National University informed that from 2025, this university will reduce university admission methods and only have 3 methods.
These methods include direct admission; admission based on the results of the competency assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University and admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam.

At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City National University encourages member universities to develop a combined admission method to recruit candidates with comprehensive capacity, suitable for the training goals of the industry/profession.
This information makes many people think that Ho Chi Minh City National University will abandon the method of giving priority to high school students. This is a form of admission based on academic records, the subjects of admission are high school graduates from 149 high schools according to the list updated by this university.
However, the leader of Ho Chi Minh City National University said that high school transcripts are still used by the university in the direct admission method.
Specifically, for the direct admission method, there will be 3 subjects including direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; direct admission of the best students of high schools according to the regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University and priority admission for excellent students of 149 schools in the direction of integrating many criteria (foreign language certificates, other activities) with high school learning results.
The list of 149 priority high schools for admission remains stable as in 2024.
For the 2025 competency assessment exam, Ho Chi Minh City National University informed that after only 22 days of opening the first registration portal, nearly 75,000 candidates registered for the exam. It is expected that the number of candidates registering for the entire first round of the exam will reach 120,000.
The first round of the exam will be held in 25 provinces/cities on March 30. The results will be announced on April 16. In the second round, candidates will register from April 17 to May 7. The exam is expected to take place in 11 provinces/cities on June 1. The results will be announced on June 16.
Ho Chi Minh City National University is the university with the largest number of students in the country. According to the latest figures, this university has a training scale of about 95,000 full-time undergraduate students and thousands of graduate and doctoral students.
