More than a month after releasing the beta version, on the night of April 1, Apple released the official iOS 18.4 update for iPhone models from iPhone Xr (2018) onwards.
New for Vietnamese users
For Vietnamese users, the most important change in the new iPhone model is the support for Siri in Vietnamese. Users can now give commands such as setting alarms, asking about the weather, and viewing personal calendar information. In addition, Apple has also cooperated with a number of partners such as Momo, Zalopay and Be to perform some operations in Vietnamese with Siri.
Say Vietnamese to top up your phone on iPhone The newly released iOS 18.4 supports Vietnamese Siri. Users can book a car, transfer money, and top up their phone by giving Vietnamese commands.
It should be noted that this is still the "old" version of Siri, not the Apple Intelligence update with intelligent Siri, understanding context and Vietnamese as Apple mentioned when launching the toolkit in 2024.
To use Siri, just go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Language > switch to Vietnamese . In addition, go to Voice to choose the response sound such as male, female, southern or northern voice. To help the device recognize the user's voice, Apple guides you to say 5 sample commands.
Siri is still woken up with the familiar command "Hey, Siri", or "Hey, Siri". The device will respond "Hey Siri" or "Siri here".
Users have four options for Siri's response sounds, including male, female, or northern voices. To help the device recognize the user's voice, Apple instructs them to say five sample commands. Additionally, Siri can also be activated by holding down the right side button.
In addition to basic commands on iPhone, some apps like Momo and Be support Vietnamese voice commands. To book a car on Be, users need to command to move to a pre-saved location in the app. With Momo, supported commands are to transfer money to friends in the account, or top up the phone.

However, the common point is that the applications all require the correct order of commands, not as freely as spoken words. In fact, giving commands to Siri will activate the Shortcuts application, performing an automatic process, so the commands must be specified in advance.
Since Siri has officially supported Vietnamese, Apple has also opened the development of commands for developers. The wider integration of Vietnamese commands with Siri will depend on the application developer.
In addition to the usual commands, this update is also a major upgrade for Apple Carplay users. Previously, because they did not understand Vietnamese, users could not command the device to play Vietnamese songs or songs by Vietnamese singers, and while driving, choosing songs on the screen was also very dangerous.
Users of Apple's HomeKit smart home ecosystem will also benefit from this feature, as they can command devices in Vietnamese instead of English as before.
What else is interesting in iOS 18.4?
For users of supported iPhone models (iPhone 15 Pro and later), when switching the language to Vietnamese, Apple Intelligence will not be able to work. In the iOS 18.4 update, Apple Intelligence supports a number of additional languages such as French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Previously, Apple said that Vietnamese would be supported on this toolkit in 2025.
iOS 18.4 also supports notification categorization using Apple Intelligence. The company says this feature will identify “important notifications that may require immediate attention.” Priority notifications are placed above other notifications on the notification screen.
No longer exclusive to iPhone 16, the Visual Intelligence feature officially supports iPhone 15 Pro. Users can hold down the Action button to scan and analyze the surrounding space with the camera.

iOS 18.4 also adds the Apple Vision Pro application, supporting connection and content suggestions for Vision Pro smart glasses users.
This version also adds some improvements to the News+ service, the Photos app, 7 new emojis, and some minor upgrades.
In particular, the Photos application adds new photo filters in albums, options to sort photos by last modified date, the ability to turn off the "Recently Viewed" and "Recently Shared" albums to protect privacy...
iOS 18.4 also fixes many vulnerabilities, including a bug that allows access to sensitive data from iOS backups, a bug that allows viewing hidden albums without authentication...
Along with iOS 18.4, Apple also released iPadOS 18.4, macOS 15.4, and visionOS 2.4. macOS 15.4 adds Mail Categorization, while visionOS 2.4 integrates Apple Intelligence for the first time.
