Former player Le Sy Manh assaulted the referee in an amateur match.
A video of former player Le Sy Manh assaulting a referee has caused a stir on social media. This image is from a match in a grassroots football tournament taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, which was broadcast live on social media.
Netizens easily recognized former player Le Sy Manh in the video. He used to be a famous striker of Vietnamese football, playing for many years in V.League for teams such as Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Quang Nam, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong... The striker born in 1984 also played for the Vietnamese national team in the period 2009-2010 and was named by coach Henrique Calisto to the list of participants in the AFF Cup 2010.
Le Sy Manh has been involved in many scandals as a player and as a coach. The most scandalous incident involving this former player was when he was a member of the coaching staff of Hai Phong club. The incident of chasing and beating goalkeeper Dang Van Lam at the club caused Le Sy Manh to lose his job.

In the video, Le Sy Manh was shown a yellow card by the referee after a tackle. After that, the former player turned away but pushed his hand into the referee's face. This resulted in him receiving another yellow card, which was equivalent to a red card and being sent off.
Before the referee could issue a red card, Sy Manh suddenly started punching and kicking continuously. Players from both teams and staff from the organizing committee had to rush in to stop him. On social media, many people expressed their indignation and condemned this violent act.
Assaulting referees and fighting in amateur tournaments is not a new phenomenon. Earlier this year, there was a case of a referee being beaten on the field that caused a stir in public opinion. A referee who had participated in the management of futsal tournaments of the Vietnam Football Federation while working at an amateur tournament in Ho Chi Minh City was assaulted by a player and had to be hospitalized for injury assessment.
