On August 24, Dr. Le Kham Tuan, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery - Spine, Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital, said that at the time of admission, the patient's vision in both eyes and consciousness had also begun to decrease. Realizing that the patient had signs of a stroke requiring timely intervention, the doctors quickly ordered paraclinical tests, CT scans, and MRIs to find the cause.

The results showed that there was a mass in and above the pituitary gland, suspected of being a pituitary tumor causing hemorrhage. Immediately, the doctors of the Neurosurgery - Spine Department performed surgery to remove the pituitary tumor using endoscopic surgery through the sphenoid bone to save the patient's life.

Dr. Le Kham Tuan said that this method helps surgeons access tumors without making skin incisions or opening the skull, leaving no surgical scars on the head, and at the same time limiting damage to healthy brain structures, blood vessels, and nerves, thereby minimizing risks and complications for patients, and post-operative recovery time is also shortened compared to previous conventional open surgery methods.

One week after surgery, the patient was discharged in stable health condition, with reduced headaches and improved vision in both eyes. The doctor advised the patient to monitor his health and return for a follow-up visit after 7 days.

Dr. Tuan said that pituitary tumors are usually benign tumors that grow slowly and have almost no clinical symptoms to recognize. Only when the tumor grows or causes damage to neighboring areas in the brain can it be detected and treated. In the past, the hospital has also detected and treated many cases of pituitary tumors causing infertility, headaches, blurred vision, ptosis or even strokes like the case of the patient mentioned above. Therefore, people should have regular health check-ups to screen for the disease. In addition, when detecting unusual signs, it is necessary to visit specialized medical facilities to detect and treat the disease promptly to avoid unfortunate complications.
