(Quang Ngai Newspaper) - The emulation movement "Exemplary veterans" has always been widely deployed by all levels of veterans' associations in Son Tinh district, with many practical activities, notably the economic development emulation movement.
In 1981, after completing his duty to protect the Fatherland, veteran Bui Tan Minh, from Phong Nien Ha village, Tinh Phong commune (Son Tinh), returned to his hometown to start a business. Starting with difficult steps, Mr. Minh gradually built up his foundation by renting land to expand his hill-based broiler farm in Tinh An Dong commune (Quang Ngai city). Gradually, thanks to his efforts and creativity in work, he expanded his farms to raise sows, pigs and chickens. In addition, he also raised 4 breeding cows. After deducting expenses, the farming models brought Mr. Minh's family a profit of about 300 million VND/year.

Not only stopping at raising livestock, Mr. Minh also takes advantage of the land area for agricultural production. He grows rice, corn, cassava, elephant grass, bitter melon and cucumber. Thanks to the application of science and technology in production, the rice yield reaches 65 - 70 quintals/ha, while other crops also bring a stable source of income. In particular, bitter melon and cucumber have helped him earn a profit of 25 million VND/crop/year over the past 5 years. From poverty, thanks to diligence, hard work and daring to think and dare to do, Mr. Minh has risen to become a typical example in the movement of good economic performance of War Veterans Association members.
According to Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Son Tinh District Nguyen Kim Bien, the emulation movement to do good business has seen many outstanding examples. The whole district currently has 5 small and medium enterprises, 4 farms, 6 service businesses managed by War Veterans Association members; 296 War Veterans Association member households raising 3-7 cows, 97 households planting forests from 10 sao to 3ha, along with 5 households providing agricultural services and other occupations. In particular, many War Veterans Association members have overcome difficulties, risen to do good business, increased family income, contributing to the development of the local socio-economy. Typical examples include member Do Ngoc Van raising ducks, breeding cows combined with planting forests, earning over 50 million VND/year; member Nguyen Tan Thuong doing interior decoration business, earning about 100 million VND/year; member Nguyen Anh Phuoc doing veterinary services and planting forests, earning over 60 million VND/year; Member Tran Cong Dung raises fattened cows and pigs combined with afforestation, earning over 50 million VND/year...
Not only striving to develop the family economy, the members of the Veterans Association also actively participate in charity activities, helping disadvantaged families, uniting and supporting each other to overcome challenges, escape poverty and become rich legitimately. They also encourage each other to learn science and technology, change the structure of crops, plants and livestock, develop occupations and build sustainable production and livestock models, improving the lives of the community.
Leaving the army and returning to civilian life, "Uncle Ho's soldiers" still uphold the good traditions, do not fear difficulties and hardships, and overcome all challenges to develop the family economy. Many members of the CCB Association enthusiastically participate in economic development movements launched by the locality, contributing to building a beautiful image of revolutionary soldiers in peacetime.
