Sharing experiences with delegates attending the field conference on transforming large-scale acacia plantations.

To implement Decision No. 4246/QD-UBND, dated October 30, 2019 of the Provincial People's Committee on approving the development of the Project on developing wood material areas of planted forests associated with large timber plantations in Quang Binh province for the period 2019-2025, in mid-2020, TNV signed a memorandum of understanding with the Forest Protection Department, Le Thuy District People's Committee and a number of functional units on cooperation in building sustainable forestry cooperatives associated with FSC sustainable forest management certification in Le Thuy district.

On that basis, TNV coordinated with professional agencies, the family of Mr. Ho A Lai and Mrs. Ho Thi Hue, Con Cung village, Kim Thuy commune, decided to choose a plot of acacia forest (planted in early 2017, area 6.65ha) to link up to build a model of converting large-scale acacia forest with FSC forest certification.

In August 2020, Ho A Lai's acacia forest was nearly 4 years old and ready for harvest. However, after working with TNV, the above forest owner decided to extend the planting period to 8 years to transform the small-wood acacia forest model into large-wood.

By February 2025, when the above forest model was 8 years old, the two parties (between Ho A Lai household and TNV) carried out procedures to liquidate the contract.

Comrade Tran Quoc Tuan, Provincial Party Committee member, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, reviewed the large-scale acacia plantation conversion model of Mr. Ho A Lai's household.
Representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reviewed and inspected the conversion of large-scale acacia plantations of Mr. Ho A Lai's household.

According to the report from TNV, the total volume of the forest has now reached nearly 1,500m3, an average of more than 222m3/ha; the volume increase productivity has reached more than 27.7 m3/ha/year.

Thus, the economic efficiency of the forest plot is much higher than that of exploiting acacia forests at 4-5 years of age. According to market prices, the profit of the forest plot in an 8-year cycle reaches nearly 180 million/ha, the average profit in 1 year is nearly 22 million/ha.

From the effectiveness of the model, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and other agencies, units, localities, and forest owners have shared experiences and drawn practical lessons to continue to replicate the model more and more effectively.
