On May 20, Mr. Le Minh Tien, Head of the Food Safety and Hygiene Department of Quang Binh province, confirmed that Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company was just fined 38 million VND for not notifying the competent authority when discovering a food safety incident and removing evidence of a leech in a water bottle at a kindergarten.
According to Mr. Tien, the unit issued the decision to administratively sanction Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company for the following violations: not notifying the competent state agency when discovering a food safety incident, and erasing evidence of a food safety incident.

Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company is the manufacturer involved in the incident of leeches wriggling in a 20-liter water bottle with the label still intact, supplied to a kindergarten. Previously, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department took water samples and sent them for testing.
These water samples include: 1 sample of Bang brand bottled water with a capacity of 20 liters (with leeches in the batch), 1 water sample before being filled, 3 water samples from 3 wells at Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company.
As a result, the basic water samples met the quality standards. However, the water sample from well No. 3 did not meet the underground water quality standards because the microbiological indicators did not meet the standards.
Authorities requested the water company to temporarily stop exploiting water at well number 3, take corrective action and send samples for testing.
As reported, at around 11:15 a.m. on April 28, in the first grade class of Phong Thuy Kindergarten, Le Thuy district, teachers brought out a 20-liter water bottle, Bang brand, for the children to drink and discovered a leech wriggling inside. At the time of discovery, the water bottle still had the label intact, and the top cap had not been opened.
Receiving notice from the school, at 1:30 p.m. the same day, the water company sent a representative to work and request to recall the water bottle with leeches along with the entire batch of drinking water bottles imported by the school on April 25.
A representative of the water company said that because they did not understand the regulations, the employees of this unit opened the water bottle to check, accidentally destroying the evidence with leeches in the water bottle. The authorities determined that the production unit arbitrarily destroyed the evidence, which was a violation of regulations.
A representative of Bang Mineral Water JSC also suspected that the water bottle with leeches was caused by someone "playing dirty" and intentionally putting foreign objects in it.
