(Dan Tri) - Regarding the fact that 154 students have not returned to class after Tet due to parents' objections to transferring schools, local authorities in Quang Binh have established 6 working groups with more than 40 people to go door to door to mobilize.
On February 11, teacher Phan Tien Lam, Principal of Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1, Ba Don town (Quang Binh) said that there are still 153 students who have not returned to school after the Lunar New Year holiday. The main reason is that parents objected to the transfer of their children from Tan My school to the main school about 2km away.
"It has been 8 days since the Tet holiday, but only 1/154 students of Tan My school have come to class. This shows that parents still do not agree with the school transfer," Mr. Lam shared.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Phuc Ward, said that the locality has established 6 working groups with more than 40 people from forces such as police, border guards, women's union, veterans' association, youth union... to mobilize parents to send their children to class.
"The reason for the transfer is because the satellite school is too degraded and unsafe. However, parents still do not agree, we are trying to persuade them. For elderly and sick parents, the locality is ready to arrange forces and means to organize transportation for students to the main school to study," said Mr. Thanh.
Besides the reason of long distance, many residents in Tan My residential group also spread unverified information that the land at Tan My school is planned to be divided into lots and sold.
However, the leaders of Ba Don town denied this and affirmed that the locality is committed to maintaining the status quo of Tan My school. When there are enough financial resources or social investment, the government will rebuild the school on the current land.
As Dan Tri reported, two rows of classrooms at Tan My school, Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1, were built in 1994 and are now dilapidated, have leaky tile roofs and are often flooded during the rainy season.
Faced with this situation, the local government directed the school to close the Tan My satellite campus in January and transfer students to the main campus to ensure safety. However, the transfer was met with opposition from parents, leading to a situation where 154 students did not attend class after the Lunar New Year holiday.
