On January 29, the People's Committee of Kon Plong District (Kon Tum) said that the unit had sent a document requesting the Department of Education and Training to strengthen inspection, reminders, and discipline schools in teaching and learning. At the same time, the People's Committee of the district also requested to urgently inspect, verify, and clarify the content of the newspaper's reflection at Po E Primary School (Po E Commune). Thereby, determining the responsibility of the relevant collective and individuals (if any).
Following the direction of the Kon Plong District People's Committee, the Department of Education and Training quickly checked and verified the information. According to the Department of Education and Training, the reason why 4th and 5th graders are slow in reading, writing, and calculating is because they do not attend school regularly or are absent. Therefore, teaching and tutoring to improve the quality of these students is difficult and has not been effective.
Many 4th and 5th grade students at Po E Primary School still read and write slowly.
In addition, the family's economic difficulties have made parents not pay attention to their children's education and still have the mindset of completely entrusting it to the school. In addition, the teaching staff of Po E Primary School in recent years has often fluctuated due to job transfers, the number of contract teachers is large and unstable, which affects the quality of education of the unit.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Minh Cuong - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Kon Plong district said that the unit regularly checks the capacity of students, thereby directing schools to stream them for further training. However, for Po E Primary School, the work of streaming students is not good, students have gaps in knowledge from lower grades. In addition, Kon Plong district also has difficulties in recruitment, currently all levels are short of 53 teachers. In many schools, most of the teachers are contract teachers, so teaching and learning work still has many shortcomings.
In order to improve the above situation, the Department of Education and Training of Kon Plong district has directed Po E Primary School to promote the classification of subjects in the classroom to organize differentiated teaching according to groups of subjects in each lesson. At the same time, classify and directly instruct teachers in teaching in the classroom as well as in lesson plans.
The reason why students are slow in reading, writing, and calculating is because they do not attend school regularly or are absent...
“At the same time, teachers also need to be proactive and make efforts to consolidate knowledge for weak students. The school board needs to clearly assign students to the Principal and Vice Principal to develop a tutoring plan for them; increase teaching 2 sessions/day and transfer weak students to the afternoon... When they have tried to do well, but still do not achieve, their abilities must be reviewed and re-evaluated to avoid the case of “achievement disease”, Mr. Cuong emphasized.
Mr. Pham Van Thang - Vice Chairman of Kon Plong District People's Committee said: "The main responsibility for the situation where 4th and 5th graders are still slow in reading and writing lies with the school board. For this issue, the district has directed to continue to improve the quality of teaching and learning, specifically checking the number of teachers, how to assign teaching periods to have specific solutions... In particular, it is necessary to strengthen the preparation of Vietnamese for preschool children, organize educational activities to enhance Vietnamese for children before entering grade 1".
Regarding the situation of many students reading and writing slowly, the People's Committee of Kon Plong district has issued a document directing the strengthening of inspection and rectification of schools in teaching and learning.
According to Mr. Thang, the most important thing in improving the quality of teaching and learning lies in the responsibility of the teacher. Why are there classes where students read very fluently but on the contrary, there are many classes where the reading quality is very low. Therefore, it is necessary to review the teachers who teach under contract, if the quality is not good, the contract will be considered to be terminated, and the teachers who are on the payroll need to focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning.
As reported by the Journalist and Public Opinion Newspaper, dozens of 4th and 5th graders at Po E Primary School, Kon Plong District (Kon Tum) still read and write slowly, some even have to spell and read letters incorrectly. The reason is that they are absent from school a lot, cannot keep up with the knowledge, in addition, most of the teachers are on contract so they often have to rotate...
