Recently, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has cooperated with the Japan Football Federation (JFA) to send players to the land of the rising sun to study and train.
Cong Phuong was assigned to guide the U18 Vietnam players during their training at Yokohama FC.
8 names including: Vi Dinh Thuong, Nguyen Luong Tuan Khai, Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Le Dinh Long Vu, Pham Nguyen Quoc Trung, Dang Thanh Binh, Nguyen Hoang Nam and Nguyen Thien Phu will have 10 days to experience in Japan.
During this time, they will train and live at two J-League 1 teams, Jubilo Iwata and Yokohama FC.
At Yokohama FC, this team will receive 4 of the 8 names mentioned above.
Notably, Yokohama FC has assigned Cong Phuong the task of introducing, guiding, and sharing with these players in the coming days.
Regarding this, the Japanese team wrote: “This is part of a project carried out by the J-League. Yokohama FC accepts players to train at the club academy with the aim of helping them improve their professional quality.
Young Vietnamese players at Yokohama FC will have the opportunity to interact with Cong Phuong, one of the pioneers of Vietnamese football."
In 2023, Vietnam U18 players will have the opportunity to face many top teams when participating in the Asian U18 tournament or Seoul EOU Cup 2023.
The 8 new players sent to Japan for training are also the core force of Vietnam U18 to aim for Southeast Asia U19 and Asia U20.
As for Cong Phuong, since joining Yokohama FC, he has not played a single minute in J-League 1.
Most of the time, "Vietnamese Messi" has to sit on the bench or is not even registered to compete.
Recently, many sources have speculated that the star from Nghe An will return to play for a team in the V-League.
Despite receiving several offers, Cong Phuong is said to not want to return to Vietnam to play football at the present time.
