Advanced technological solutions and equipment that bring practical efficiency to the processing of agricultural products of the province have been introduced by experts to many establishments, enterprises, and cooperatives growing and processing agricultural products throughout the province.

The application of solar energy integrated with moisture separation technology in agricultural processing in Binh Thuan province was shared by Master (MSc.) Phan Van Hiep, Faculty of Engineering - Technology, Van Hien University (Ho Chi Minh City) at the conference on technology and equipment for processing dragon fruit and other agricultural products, organized by the Center for Information and Application of Science and Technology Advances of the province at the end of August. Because of the innovative designs of the equipment such as solar heat traps placed above the dryer, or placed on the roof of the factory, integrating moisture separation technology for agricultural and seafood; controlling drying temperature; sterilizing microorganisms and molds with UVC technology; controlling and monitoring on LCD or smartphone. The application of drying agricultural products using solar energy integrated with moisture separation technology is currently designed to be convenient, does not require a large area, the product after drying maintains its nutritional content, and the temperature can be controlled as desired. Multi-function dryers using solar energy save energy, reduce emissions; increase product uniformity and dry quickly; keep original shape, color, and flavor; ensure food hygiene and safety, preserve longer and save labor...

MSc. Phan Van Hiep introduces solar energy applications in agricultural processing.

This method overcomes the limitations of traditional agricultural processing methods, such as the sun-drying stage of agricultural products requiring a large area, easily damaged by unexpected rains, birds, some products do not dry as desired after sun-drying. The freezing stage of seafood consumes a lot of electricity, requires a spacious cold storage, and is difficult to transport. Or drying by heating with fuel or electricity takes a lot of time, fuel, and has a small drying capacity.

“Current solar dryers with integrated moisture separation technology can be used to dry agricultural and seafood products of Binh Thuan such as freeze-drying dragon fruit, products processed from dragon fruit, cashew nuts, squid, fish…”, shared MSc. Phan Van Hiep.

Within the related framework, the solution "Technology for preserving dragon fruit, some key export fruits" was introduced by Dr. Nguyen Vu Hong Ha, Department of Food Technology, International University (Ho Chi Minh City). Along with that, some other advanced solutions such as: technology for processing fermented water, wine from dragon fruit; multi-material essential oil distillation equipment suitable for households; application of enzyme technology to process noni fruit, increase value, protect health were shared by application centers, enterprises inside and outside the province. Also here, some cooperatives in Duc Linh, Le Duyen clean incense facility (Ham Chinh commune, Ham Thuan Bac) asked MSc. Phan Van Hiep to advise on solar energy dryers integrated with moisture separation technology to be able to invest in product processing.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Deputy Director of Binh Thuan Center for Information and Application of Scientific and Technological Advances, said: “The introduction of technology and equipment for processing and preserving agricultural and seafood products after harvest to serve the production and trading of the province's key and advantageous products, contributes to diversifying products to serve domestic and export needs. According to statistics, the total area of dragon fruit in the province is nearly 26,500 hectares, with a harvest output of more than 570,000 tons/year. Thereby, establishments, enterprises, cooperatives, and households in the province can refer to investment, processing, improving product quality, serving the domestic market, exporting, increasing value, increasing community income, aiming at sustainable development not only dragon fruit but also many other agricultural products of the province.
