Hai Phong Club lost heavily, losing the top spot to Sabah

Hai Phong FC met Sabah in the second leg of the 2023/2024 AFC Cup. In the first leg, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem and his team won 3-2. However, they lost when playing away at their opponent's field.

Hai Phong FC started the game more impressively. They almost opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. Huu Son entered the penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot. However, the ball went wide of the post.

The Hai Phong team dominated the home team. The midfield with Martin Lo, Bicou Bissainthe and Huu Son controlled the ball well.

However, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem and his team were unlucky. In the 20th minute, the home team player made a through ball that eliminated the entire Hai Phong defense. Goalkeeper Van Toan rushed out to block but missed, creating an opportunity for Daniel Ting to finish into an empty net.

In the second half, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem strengthened the attack with Lucao. Martin Lo had to leave the field. Hai Phong FC played better. The ball mainly rolled on the home field in the first half of the half.

However, in the second half, Sabah regained control of the game. Sadil accelerated on the right wing, passing Pham Manh Hung. This player shot into the near corner but goalkeeper Van Toan accurately blocked it with his foot.

Sabah won 4-1. They took the top spot with 9 points. Hai Phong and PSM Makassar both had 6 points, but the Vietnamese representative ranked higher thanks to a better goal difference. Hougang United ranked last with 3 points.
