Hai Phong FC met Sabah in the second leg of the 2023/2024 AFC Cup. In the first leg, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem and his team won 3-2. However, they lost when playing away at their opponent's field.

Sabah won 4-1. They took the top spot with 9 points. Hai Phong and PSM Makassar both had 6 points, but the Vietnamese representative ranked higher thanks to a better goal difference. Hougang United ranked last with 3 points.
