A special visit at a meaningful time

This morning, September 24, President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez arrived in Hanoi, beginning a 5-day visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of the leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State.

Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernández visited Vietnam not only as President of the National Assembly, but also on behalf of the Cuban Party and State.

The visit was made on the occasion of both countries commemorating the event of Leader Fidel Castro, then Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, visiting the newly liberated land in Quang Tri 50 years ago (September 1973). Therefore, the visit has an important meaning, contributing to deepening the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.

According to the schedule, President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez will greet General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, meet with President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

The delegation also moved to Quang Tri to participate in a series of activities such as offering flowers to the statue of Leader Fidel Castro, visiting Hien Luong Bridge... On September 26, the President of the Cuban National Assembly will join Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat and Head of the Central Organization Committee Truong Thi Mai to attend the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of Leader Fidel Castro's visit to the Liberated Zone of Southern Vietnam.

This year, Vietnam and Cuba have organized many activities to celebrate important events: 60 years since Cuba established the Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam (September 25, 1963 - September 25, 2023), the predecessor of today's Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association; 50 years since leader Fidel Castro first visited Vietnam and went to the Liberated Zone of South Vietnam (September 1973 - 2023)...

Notable commemorative activities in Vietnam include the 50th anniversary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro's first visit to Vietnam, to the Southern Vietnam Liberation Zone (September 12, 1973 - September 12, 2023) and the opening of the photo exhibition "Great Victory of Cuba and Vietnam", on September 12, organized by the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi.

Also on September 12, in Cuba, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel presided over the 50th anniversary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro's first visit to Vietnam and the newly liberated zone of South Vietnam (September 1973 - September 2023).

At the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung affirmed that President Fidel Castro's visit to Vietnam in 1973 was an important milestone in bilateral relations. Leader Fidel Castro's gesture was a great source of encouragement for the revolutionary forces, and at the same time contributed to spreading the solidarity movement with Vietnam globally. The Vietnamese Ambassador expressed his belief that Cuba would overcome all difficulties and obstacles and achieve many victories in the cause of building socialism.

Recently, during the meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel on the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York (USA) on September 20, the leaders of the two countries affirmed their efforts to coordinate well in organizing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of President Fidel's visit to the Southern Vietnam Liberation Zone, especially on the occasion of the visit to Vietnam by President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernández (from September 24-28).
