A series of cultural, educational and economic cooperation events will be held, including the "Berlin Shines" gala concert in Hanoi (February 21) and Ho Chi Minh City (February 28) with the participation of famous soprano Katharine Mehrling, and a performance by Thomas Anders (Modern Talking) on October 25 in Hanoi. In particular, the German Festival at Hoan Kiem Lake from September 19-21 promises to bring unique experiences of culture and development cooperation between the two countries.
In the field of education and career, the Career Coach will travel through many provinces and cities from April to November, stopping at central locations to provide career counseling and introduce German cuisine. Career fairs will also take place in Hanoi (April 26) and Ho Chi Minh City (June and November), connecting German businesses with Vietnamese human resources.
In addition, the writing contest "A Day as an Ambassador" and the street art contest #50VietDuc are also held to create a creative playground for young people. See detailed information about the activities here.
Notably, the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the German Bundesliga and the Vietnam Football Federation on February 26 will open up opportunities for the development of professional football in Vietnam. In addition, an event introducing prominent figures with dual Vietnamese-German citizenship will take place online at the end of March and along the wall outside the German Embassy in the second half of 2025.
Economically, Germany is Vietnam's leading trading partner in the EU with a total trade turnover of over 11 billion USD by 2023. Currently, there are more than 530 German enterprises successfully operating in Vietnam, with a total capital of over 3.6 billion USD, creating about 50,000 jobs. The Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has significantly promoted this cooperation, especially in the fields of electronics and food production, according to Ms. Helga Margarete Barth.
Future cooperation priorities include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and vocational training. The German government wants to attract more young Vietnamese people to study and work in Germany, while expanding opportunities to import Vietnamese food products, including fish sauce and pepper, into the German market.
Regarding transportation, after Vietnam Airlines operates direct flights to Munich in October 2024, VietJet plans to open more routes from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to Frankfurt and Munich, making it easier for German tourists to travel to Vietnam. In 2024, there will be about 250,000 German tourists coming to Vietnam, ranking second in Europe, after France.
Looking back over the past 50 years, the Vietnam-Germany relationship has grown stronger in many areas. German Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth emphasized the importance of people-to-people connections in the relationship between the two countries and expressed her desire to continue promoting bilateral cooperation on a sustainable and comprehensive basis.
