Focus on developing livestock processing

In order to improve the efficiency of livestock farming and reduce risks, in recent years, districts, towns and cities in the province have focused on encouraging people to develop livestock farming in the form of processing through chains linked with businesses. This is a sustainable and effective form of livestock farming and brings stable income to people.

Focus on developing livestock processing The chicken farm of Mr. Thieu Van Tuoi's family in Nga Bach commune (Nga Son).

Having been involved in agriculture for many years, Mr. Thieu Van Tuoi in Nga Bach commune (Nga Son) realized that small-scale poultry farming, household scale, is always affected by diseases, production material costs and market prices, so economic efficiency is unstable. Therefore, he sought a number of businesses to cooperate in developing large-scale colored chicken farming. In 2012, his family invested more than 300 million VND to build 2 rows of barns with automatic feeding and drinking troughs for raising chickens. Accordingly, his family signed a cooperation agreement with Golden Star Animal Feed Company Limited to raise commercial chickens.

Mr. Tuoi said: In 2012, my family invested in building a chicken farm with a scale of 7,000 chickens/batch. After 3 months of raising, if we can ensure the output signed with the company, we will achieve a revenue of about 150 million VND, 1.5 times higher than the previous proactive and spontaneous raising.

According to Mr. Tuoi, poultry farming under the form of processing is managed by enterprises for the quality of feed and breeding sources, ensuring technical processes in farming, thus limiting diseases, especially farmers are less affected by the consumer market.

In fact, livestock farming always has the potential risk of disease, along with high feed and transportation costs, so contract farming is the direction chosen by many households and farms not only raising poultry, but also raising pigs in recent years. With this form of farming, businesses will invest in the "full package" from breeding, feed, techniques, and farmers only need to take care of and clean the barn.

With a barn area of over 3,000m2, for over 8 years now, Mr. Ngo Van Lam in Thieu Thanh commune (Thieu Hoa) has been raising pigs for processing with CP Vietnam Company. According to the terms of the signed contract, the company is responsible for providing breeding stock, food, medicine to prevent and control diseases, sending technical staff to support the family in the process of caring for livestock and consuming products. The family is responsible for investing in barns that meet technical standards (closed, with disinfection rooms, camera surveillance systems...), hygiene to prevent diseases and ensure no environmental pollution.

Mr. Lam said: The farm is maintaining a total herd of about 1,400 pigs, of which about 200 are sows, the rest are pigs for meat. Thanks to the association with the enterprise, the farm is fully supported in terms of care and vaccination techniques, economic efficiency is always stable, not affected by objective factors such as market prices, diseases...

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province has about 620 livestock farms. Most of the farms have developed sustainable linkage models in livestock farming. For poultry farming, in the province, there are a number of large enterprises that have organized linkages and developed a livestock processing system for the People, such as: Phu Gia Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company, linked with 20 farms in Ngoc Lac and Tho Xuan districts; Viet Hung Company Limited has organized the development of a livestock processing system at 8 farms in Hau Loc and Nga Son districts; Japfa Vietnam Joint Stock Company has linked with about 125 farms in Yen Dinh, Hau Loc, Tho Xuan and Nhu Thanh districts... For pig farming, there are 92 pig farms in Nga Son, Hau Loc, Hoang Hoa, Yen Dinh, Thieu Hoa, Nhu Xuan districts... linked and processed livestock farming for Vietnam Joint Stock Company; 18 farms located in the districts of Nhu Xuan, Cam Thuy, Thach Thanh, Nga Son, Hau Loc develop livestock processing with CJ Company, 4 farms in Nhu Xuan district process livestock for Japfa Vietnam Joint Stock Company...

When doing contract farming for businesses, on average, for 1kg of pigs or chickens, people earn a profit of 4 to 5 thousand VND, depending on the agreement between the business and the farming household. According to people's assessment, compared to normal farming, contract farming is more sustainable and safer, because people do not have to worry about output, diseases, and the environment is guaranteed.

From the above advantages, Thanh Hoa province is encouraging households to develop livestock farming in the direction of farms and family farms linked with enterprises to bring economic efficiency. Along with that, the province also creates favorable conditions for enterprises to invest in livestock development in the area to build sustainable linkage chains in livestock farming, not only improving economic efficiency and production level for people, but also ensuring the supply of high-quality livestock products for large-scale slaughterhouses and processing plants.
