National Assembly Chairman meets with Lao General Secretary and President

On the morning of October 18, in the capital Vientiane, within the framework of his official visit to Laos and participation in the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA 45), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith.
At the meeting, Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith warmly welcomed National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly on their official visit to Laos and their participation in AIPA-45. He emphasized that the visit is meaningful and contributes to further strengthening the close relationship between the two countries.

The Lao General Secretary and President highly appreciated the two sides' active coordination in implementing the results of the recent meeting between the two Politburoes. In particular, the Vietnamese side has established a working group to implement cooperation agreements; the Lao side has also organized conferences and assigned specific tasks to ministries, departments and branches. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his joy in returning to visit the beautiful country of Laos and meeting again with General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, a close comrade and friend of Vietnam. He was delighted with the great, comprehensive and historic achievements that Laos has achieved after nearly 40 years of renovation and after more than 3 years of implementing the Resolution of the 11th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. The National Assembly Chairman believes that under the wise leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party headed by General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, the direction of the Government, and the support and supervision of the National Assembly, Laos will prepare well for the upcoming 12th Party Congress and develop a plan for Laos' socio-economic development in the new period (2026 - 2030), continuing to build a prosperous Laos with an increasingly high position in the international arena. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith highly appreciated the good and solid development of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in recent years, including very important contributions from the two countries' National Assemblies. The two leaders emphasized that in the coming time, the two sides need to promote the tradition of close and trustworthy cooperation, actively implement high-level agreements, including the results of the meeting between the two Politburoes in September 2024. Continue to strengthen cooperation between the two legislative bodies of the two countries, especially the exchange of delegations at all levels, sharing experiences in constitutional amendments, supreme supervision and deciding on important issues of the country. At the same time, closely cooperate and support each other in parliamentary and international forums such as AIPA, Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF)..., closely coordinate at regional and international forums.
National Assembly Chairman attends AIPA 45 Executive Committee meeting
On the same morning, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and leaders of parliaments/parliaments of AIPA 45 member countries attended the AIPA 45 Executive Committee meeting. The AIPA 45 General Assembly has the theme: "The role of Parliaments in enhancing ASEAN's connectivity and comprehensive growth". This theme is consistent with the general theme of ASEAN this year: "ASEAN: Promoting connectivity and self-reliance". This theme reflects the consistent message of AIPA and the desire of the host country Laos to strengthen the connection between economies in the region and between ASEAN and external partners, narrow the development gap, promote comprehensive and sustainable development. Based on the general theme of the General Assembly, Vietnam plans to propose 4 initiatives/resolutions at the AIPA Young Parliamentarians' Conference, the Social Committee Conference, the AIPA Women Parliamentarians' Conference, and the Economic Committee Conference. The Vietnamese delegation also considered co-sponsoring 6 resolutions; including 5 resolutions proposed by Laos, 1 resolution proposed by Indonesia, Laos and Malaysia.
