President Vo Van Thuong visits and works at Military Region 5

Towards the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2023), on December 5, President Vo Van Thuong visited and worked with the Military Region 5 Command - an area with a very important strategic position in terms of politics, economy, defense, security, and foreign affairs in the Central Highlands region.

Also attending were leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, Da Nang city and representatives of leaders of a number of central departments, ministries and branches.

Speaking at the working session, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Vo Van Thuong sent his warmest greetings and best wishes to all officers and soldiers of the Military Region 5 armed forces. Assessing the results of the 2023 defense work of Military Region 5, President Vo Van Thuong said that, together with the entire army, the Armed Forces of Military Region 5 have focused on synchronous, tight, drastic implementation, and made efforts to successfully complete the assigned tasks. Notably, they have closely coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to proactively grasp and accurately forecast the situation, promptly advise the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense on military and defense matters; closely coordinated with forces to grasp the local situation; promptly handle situations that arise, avoiding being passive and surprised. The Armed Forces of Military Region 5 strictly maintain combat readiness; strictly manage airspace, sea, islands, and borders; Effectively use the investment budget for building combat works; strengthen the capacity and strength of defense areas; deploy many breakthrough solutions, both in organization and methods of building militia and self-defense forces, mobilization reserves, and training assurance work; the quality of defense area exercises is increasingly improved.

The implementation of the adjustment of the organization and forces of the units was carried out methodically and cautiously, maintaining the stability of the situation, meeting the requirements of the tasks. The work of selecting and calling citizens to join the army met the targets and was of good quality; the work of educating and fostering knowledge of national defense and security was well implemented. Military foreign affairs work was expanded and achieved good results, contributing practically to the early and far-reaching construction and protection of the Fatherland. The President also commented that the Military Region organized well the study and strictly grasped the Resolutions and Directives of the Party, associated with the implementation of Directive No. 05 of the Politburo on studying and following the ideology, morality and lifestyle of Ho Chi Minh; carried out well the work of mobilizing the masses, the military rear policy, and gratitude. In particular, cadres, soldiers, militia and self-defense forces have proactively and actively participated in responding to, searching, rescuing and saving victims; solving urgent social issues such as natural disasters and epidemics; help people overcome the consequences of storms and floods, contributing to stabilizing people's lives and production. These are very meaningful and humane actions of the armed forces of Military Region 5.

Praising the achievements that the armed forces of Military Region 5 have achieved in recent times, mentioning the forecast that the world and regional situation will continue to develop in a complicated and unpredictable manner, with many potential factors of instability, the President requested Military Region 5 to focus on studying, thoroughly grasping and deeply understanding the Resolution of the 8th Central Committee, Session XIII, on the Strategy for National Defense in the new situation; Resolutions and Directives of the Party, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on the implementation of defense and security tasks associated with socio-economic development in strategic areas. In particular, it is necessary to grasp, analyze, evaluate and accurately forecast the situation, especially developments related to defense and security in the Military Region; Proactively and promptly advise the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on appropriate countermeasures, resolutely not to be passive or surprised in any situation, firmly protect the national border, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland. The President requested that it is necessary to focus on building a strong Military Region armed force, absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the people, taking human development as the center and decisive step. Attach importance to and regularly innovate and improve the quality and effectiveness of political and ideological education work; effectively fight against the wrong and reactionary views of hostile forces, protect the Party's ideological foundation; must not be vague, subjective, or lose vigilance. At the same time, proactively prevent and combat "self-evolution", "self-transformation", and "depoliticization of the Army"; Strengthen internal solidarity of the Military Region, especially solidarity between the military and the people, strictly comply with the laws of the State and military discipline. The armed forces of Military Region 5 strictly maintain combat readiness training regime, strictly manage airspace, sea, border, inland, cyberspace and strategic and key areas; build solid defense zones of provinces and cities, maintain initiative in all situations; focus on improving the quality of training and realistic exercises; promote the implementation of breakthroughs; improve the level of regularity, awareness of discipline and law compliance, and ensure safety in all activities.

The armed forces of Military Region 5 closely coordinate with Party committees, authorities, organizations, police and border guards to consolidate a solid "people's hearts" position, and maintain political and social stability from the grassroots level. The Military Region needs to proactively and actively improve the effectiveness of defense diplomacy, especially defense diplomacy policies and guidelines, build a peaceful, friendly, stable and developed border and do a good job of helping Laos and Cambodia. The President also noted that the Military Region needs to well implement the resolutions, conclusions and regulations of the Central Committee on Party building and rectification and the political system; build a truly clean, strong, exemplary and model Party organization in the Military Region in terms of politics, ideology, organization, ethics and cadres.

The President believes that, promoting the tradition of "Self-reliance, self-strengthening, overcoming difficulties, enduring hardships, being ingenious and creative, fighting steadfastly, and winning gloriously", the armed forces of Military Region 5 will excellently complete their assigned tasks, making achievements to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army. * Earlier, on the same morning, President Vo Van Thuong visited and inspected the training and combat readiness work at the 574th Armored Brigade (Military Region 5). 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the 574th Brigade's traditional day (1973-2023), the unit's officers and soldiers have promoted the emulation movement to win in all aspects of work, effectively integrating it with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style both widely and deeply. The emulation movement focuses on breaking through weak points and difficult tasks, improving the quality of training, training discipline, building a disciplined lifestyle, cultural environment, strengthening internal solidarity, military-civilian solidarity... In the new period, the officers and soldiers of the Brigade always uphold the spirit of solidarity, proactiveness, creativity, promoting internal strength, overcoming difficulties, striving to build the unit in the direction of "Elite, compact, strong"; constantly improving the overall quality and combat strength, contributing to the successful implementation of the military and defense policies of the Party and State, firmly protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam. With its outstanding achievements, the Brigade was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State, creating the tradition of "Solidarity - Loyalty - Self-reliance - Once in the army, it is victory".
