(Dan Tri) - According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the meeting between President Vo Van Thuong and key Chinese leaders within the framework of the Belt and Road Forum will open up many new cooperation opportunities.

On October 17, President Vo Van Thuong left for China to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, at the invitation of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping. The trip is expected to last until October 20.

Responding to the press about this event, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu said this was a working trip to China and also the first multilateral foreign activity of President Vo Van Thuong in his new position.

The Belt and Road Conference was held for the first time after a long interruption due to the epidemic, so it received great attention and importance from China and other countries.

"Therefore, the participation of President Vo Van Thuong at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation this time is of great significance on both bilateral and multilateral levels," said the Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu commented that the participation of President Vo Van Thuong demonstrates Vietnam's strong commitment to multilateralism and proactiveness in enhancing regional and global economic cooperation and connectivity.

This is meaningful in the context of slow global economic recovery, where countries want to strengthen regional and global economic linkages to promote economic recovery.

According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, during the 4-day working trip, President Vo Van Thuong will discuss with leaders and representatives of more than 140 countries and international organizations important contents and topics considered as new driving forces for the economic recovery process of each country as well as the world.

Including content on green transformation, digital transformation, digital innovation, modern agriculture, small and medium enterprise development, startups...

The trip created important directions for cooperation.

On the bilateral front, Mr. Vu said that this working trip of President Vo Van Thuong is highly valued by the leaders of the two countries. Accordingly, this is a high-level foreign activity in the year commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Vietnam and China.

Meetings between the Vietnamese head of state and key Chinese leaders will contribute to enhancing political trust, maintaining the momentum of the relationship as well as creating new cooperation opportunities; especially after many high-level activities between the two countries, especially the official visit to China by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in October 2022.

"Thereby contributing to the development of the Vietnam - China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in a more healthy, stable and sustainable manner in the coming time," according to Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu.

Regarding the expectations of cooperation to be promoted during this working trip, the leader of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the participation of President Vo Van Thuong at the forum will contribute to consolidating the trend of strengthening regional and global economic connectivity, especially when Vietnam is a country with a large economic openness.

Along with that, President Vo Van Thuong and leaders of China and other countries exchanging and discussing contents suitable to Vietnam's development orientation will contribute to creating lessons and experiences, thereby mobilizing resources and expanding economic cooperation.

Mr. Vu commented that the meeting between President Vo Van Thuong and key Chinese leaders as well as other international leaders attending the conference will open up many new cooperation opportunities for Vietnam.

With China, the two sides will continue to discuss measures to enhance high-level and all-level exchanges; promote more sustainable and balanced economic, trade and investment relations in the coming time; strengthen infrastructure cooperation... especially within the framework of connecting "Two Corridors, One Belt" and "One Belt, One Road".

"This also creates important cooperation orientations for Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities to coordinate with Chinese partners to continue bringing the bilateral relationship into a new stage with higher political trust, more substantive cooperation, a more consolidated social foundation and better resolution of disagreements," said Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu.

The "Belt and Road" initiative was first raised by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Central Asia (September 2013) and Southeast Asia (October 2013).

In terms of geographical scope, the Belt and Road Initiative stretches from Asia to Europe and may extend to Africa and Latin America. The two main components are the Silk Road Economic Belt (on land) and the 11th Century Maritime Silk Road.

On November 12, 2017, on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam and attendance at the APEC Summit Week, Vietnam and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments on promoting connectivity between the "Two Corridors, One Belt" framework and the "Belt and Road" initiative.

The two sides are continuing to discuss the contents to concretize this Memorandum of Understanding.
