When Pouyuen Company reduced more than 2,300 workers in February , the city found 3,200 job offers but only 46 workers were looking for work, accounting for 2%.
The information was announced by Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of the city at a press conference on the socio-economic situation in the area on the afternoon of May 18, when mentioning Pouyuen Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Binh Tan district cutting workers due to difficulties in orders.

At the beginning of the year, Pouyuen reduced its workforce by more than 2,300, of which 83% were female. The group over 40 years old accounted for 54%, while the proportion of those aged 30-40 was 39%. About 87% of the employees had worked at the company for 10 years or more.
To support laid-off workers, the city's employment service center has connected with 15 local businesses in need of recruitment to introduce them to workers. However, when consulting, only a few people are looking for jobs.
The reason is assessed by the City Employment Service Center as the majority of workers need unemployment benefits or are looking for seasonal work. Workers who do not want to find a job with a signed labor contract because of the social insurance contributions will not be entitled to unemployment benefits.
According to statistics, there are 581 people of the company receiving unemployment benefits in Ho Chi Minh City, 1,666 cases receiving in the province.
Pouyuen is currently planning to cut its workforce by 5,744 people, or 10% of its 50,500 employees. Workers will be laid off in two batches, the first on June 24 with 4,519 people and the next on July 8 with 1,225 people.

To support the labor force that was reduced during this period, the City Employment Service Center coordinated with the company's trade union and the human resources department to survey the job and vocational training aspirations of workers.
The city has connected 16 businesses with 4,960 job positions in fields such as garment, sales staff, food service staff, receptionists, and security guards to provide consulting and job referrals for workers.
The leader of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that the city's labor market is "still affected and sluggish". The reason is that many businesses are in the process of finding ways to restore orders and maintain jobs for workers, especially businesses in the fields of textiles, footwear, real estate, construction, and production of fine art wooden furniture...
Other industries such as food, beverage production; computer and electronic product manufacturing; wholesale and retail; tourism; finance and banking have increased recruitment needs, opening up many job opportunities for workers.
