Both males and females have no horns, the fangs grow out beyond the edges (in males longer than in females), and the upper incisors are missing. The South Sea chevrotain has short, smooth fur, reddish-brown on the upper surface, fading on the sides, dark along the middle of the back, with a black streak along the nape of the neck, and under the chin.
