TT said that after giving birth she gained weight so she was advised to cut down on starch to lose weight.
"However, after the 4th day, I started to feel very tired, dizzy, had a headache, was very thirsty and constipated. When asked, everyone said that this side effect would occur in the beginning, but that I would get used to it after a few days. But I continued eating for 2 more days, and lost 1 kg, but I was too tired so I gave up," said Ms. T.
Similarly, female student LTCĐ (19 years old), a student at a university in Ho Chi Minh City, said she applied a starch-cutting diet to lose weight for 1.5 months. The result was quite satisfactory, she lost 4 kg.
"Although this method of weight loss was quite effective, I lost concentration, had a decline in memory compared to the previous stage, and forgot things quickly, so when it came to the second semester exams, I stopped," said D.

Or like TL (in Go Vap district, Ho Chi Minh City) said she had headaches, dizziness, forgetfulness, and lack of concentration due to lack of carbs (carbohydrates) after cutting out starch to lose weight in a short time.
What happens to your body if you cut down on carbs?
Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Lam Vinh Nien, Head of the Department of Nutrition - Dietetics, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said that a low-carb diet, especially a very low-carb diet, can help lose weight quickly in the short term. However, most studies show that after 12 or 24 months, the benefits of this diet are no different from other weight loss diets.
"Long-term carbohydrate restriction can lead to a lack of vitamins and minerals found in carbohydrate-containing foods and cause digestive disorders. People who reduce their carbohydrate intake may eat more foods containing animal fats and proteins, which can lead to health risks such as cardiovascular disease and cancer...", Dr. Vinh Nien shared.
Dr. Nguyen Thu Ha, Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital, shared that in a normal diet, the proportion of starch is always the highest (60-70%). If you suddenly go through a period of completely cutting starch from your diet, you will most likely experience a period of "shock" in your body.
Carbohydrates (including starch, sugar, fiber) are the main source of energy for the body's activities, especially the brain, which is the organ that needs the most energy from glucose.
"When you do not take in enough carbohydrates for your body, it will cause hypoglycemia with symptoms of excessive hunger, shaking, nausea, sweating, feeling weak, dizziness, blurred vision. Then, your body begins to burn fat for energy, leading to a state of Ketosis with symptoms of bad breath, less hunger, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, loss of concentration, constipation, ... This condition will greatly affect your health if it lasts long," Dr. Ha analyzed.
