TPO - Since the end of 2023, a crack about 900 m long has appeared in Bai hamlet, passing through many families. According to the People's Committee of Phong Van commune, the cause of the above situation is sand mining activities on the Da River in Phu Tho province, which has affected more than 200 households in the commune, of which 42 households have cracked and sunken floors.

On May 15, the People's Committee of Ba Vi district sent a report to the People's Committee of Hanoi City on the situation of sand mining in Phu Tho province, the area bordering Ba Vi district, causing riverbank erosion. In particular, many families along the river have signs of subsidence and cracking. According to records on the morning of May 21, in the area bordering Phong Van commune (Ba Vi district) and the area belonging to Phu Tho province, there are many boats dredging sand.

According to the People's Committee of Phong Van Commune (Ba Vi District), sand mining in Phu Tho Province has caused riverbank erosion in the commune for many years. However, since the end of 2023, cracks and subsidence of houses in Van Noi village have occurred.

According to statistics from Phong Van Commune People's Committee, more than 200 households were affected by sand mining on the Da River. Of these, 42 households were directly affected when their house foundations sank and cracked.

The Ba Vi District Economic Department said the crack was about 900 meters long, stretching from the beginning of Bai hamlet (Van Noi village) to the end of Bai hamlet.

Phong Van Commune People's Committee said that due to sand mining activities, the embankment area along Bai hamlet, which was just completed in 2021 with a cost of about 80 billion VND, has been eroded.

On the shore, Ba Vi district authorities have posted warning signs in the area to monitor landslide developments. On the river, boats are still anchored to mine sand.

On the morning of May 21, the working group of the Ba Vi District People's Committee also went to the landslide area to survey and advise on appropriate solutions. In the face of sand mining causing riverbank erosion and house subsidence, the Hanoi People's Committee said it would send a document requesting the Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee to take measures to manage sand mining activities in the area. At the same time, it will closely coordinate with the Hanoi People's Committee to ensure security and order, prevent natural disasters, and prevent and thoroughly handle violations in the area.

In the photo is a construction material yard along the Huu Hong dike. The Hanoi People's Committee directed the Ba Vi District People's Committee to regularly inspect, review, promptly detect and strictly handle violations of the law on mineral exploitation according to regulations. At the same time, propose a handling plan and coordinate with relevant departments and branches to thoroughly clear the business and transit yards of construction materials along the Huu Hong dike.
