Spot works like a pebble stuck to the wall, using radar technology to detect the presence of people in the office. With the ability to scan up to 5 meters away, Logitech's device can detect movement and determine the number of people in rooms.
In addition, Spot is also equipped with environmental sensors to measure air quality, CO2 levels, temperature and humidity, thereby helping companies create ideal working conditions for employees.
The main purpose of Logitech's sensor
The larger goal of Spot is to provide insight into how workspaces are actually being used. Facility managers can easily identify underutilized areas by installing these sensors throughout the office. While there are already surveillance cameras for large spaces, Spot provides visibility into smaller areas without invading employee privacy, says Logitech product manager Henry Levak.
Spot's compact design
Logitech has touted a number of potential applications for Spot, including automating the booking of unused rooms, optimizing HVAC systems based on actual occupancy, and reducing stale air buildup. Spot transmits sensor data wirelessly to hubs via low-power LoRaWAN technology and can integrate with Logitech’s existing office management solutions, as well as collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
Notably, the sensors can operate continuously for up to four years on a single battery. While installing multiple sensors can provide a comprehensive view of employee behavior, Logitech claims that radar is not accurate enough to identify specific individuals, and is less invasive than using surveillance cameras.
Spot is expected to officially launch in the second half of this year, promising to provide an effective solution for office space management in the modern working context.
