Many high school students say they are often confused when choosing their aspirations and determining their goals. The most concerned question is: "How to clearly define goals without being shaken?"
On February 17, about 2,000 students from Le Trong Tan High School (Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City) participated in the program "Dialogue with the 2025 Valedictorians" with the theme "Target Course". The event provided a lot of useful knowledge, helping 12th graders build an effective study plan to prepare for the upcoming high school graduation exam.
At the program, the school's students had the opportunity to interact with students who had outstanding achievements in excellent student exams, high school exams, and were valedictorians of blocks A00, D01, etc. Through the program, many secrets and experiences in studying for important exams, especially the high school graduation exam, were shared in a practical and sincere way.
Here, many 11th and 12th grade students participating in the program said that choosing aspirations and determining goals often leads to confusion. So how can you easily determine your goals and aspirations without being shaken?
Student Van Ta Hong Tinh (2nd from left), Faculty of Music, Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts, participates in a dialogue program with the valedictorian.
Ngo Khanh Duy, a student majoring in Statistics at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, and the valedictorian of Hoang Hoa Tham High School with a score of 26.3 in the university entrance exam, shared that initially, answering the question of goals and aspirations can be difficult, but if we take the time to understand ourselves, consult teachers, seniors or look up on YouTube to have a clearer perspective on the path we are pursuing. Once we identify our strengths and weaknesses, setting goals becomes easier.
"I set clear and specific goals. Instead of being vague like 'I want to pass the university entrance exam', I clearly defined: 'I want to get 26 points in block A to enter the Financial Mathematics major at the University of Economics, because this major suits my interest in Mathematics. The more specific the goal, the easier it is to plan and implement it", Khanh Duy shared.
Ngo Khanh Duy, a student majoring in Statistics at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, valedictorian of block A at Hoang Hoa Tham High School with 26.3 university entrance exam scores, shares his secret to studying well.
Finally, Khanh Duy advises students to avoid comparing themselves negatively with others. "Some students use other people as a model for motivation, but if they compare too much, they will easily doubt themselves, suffer from peer pressure and lose motivation to study. When I was in grade 12, I studied with many good students from the Specialized School, and sometimes I felt self-conscious. But I understand that everyone has their own path, just focus on your goals, work hard every day and maintain your original direction, that's good enough," Duy concluded.
Sharing the secret to locking in learning goals, Van Ta Hong Tinh, a student of the Faculty of Music, Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts, who achieved 9.25 points in Literature for the 2024 high school graduation exam, shared: "At first, I planned to register for Journalism - Communication, but then I realized that I had a talent for music and was really passionate about standing on stage. That made me determined to pursue Vocal Music. To keep the fire burning for this goal, I always find ways to maintain motivation and pursue it to the end. After half a year of studying, I feel that I have chosen the right major and realized that sometimes it takes time to experience reality to understand myself. This major gives me many interesting experiences."
Hong Tinh also shared that the secret to getting a high score in Literature is to have a solid grasp of basic knowledge and combine it with outside knowledge. "I find that reading books, learning about social knowledge and applying it appropriately to writing is very important. Writing deeply, with real-life evidence, writing long but avoiding rambling is the way to get a high score," Hong Tinh said.
Valedictorian of block D01 Nguyen Van Ngoc, student at Foreign Trade University, campus II: Choosing a major and choosing a school should be based on your own strengths!
As for female student Nguyen Van Ngoc, Foreign Trade University CSII also shared many secrets to achieve high scores. Ngoc once scored 27.5 points in block D1, was the valedictorian of grade 10 and the valedictorian of block D01 at Chu Van An High School. Ngoc scored 9.2 points in English, 9.0 in Math, 9.3 in Literature in the high school exam, sharing that: Choosing a major and choosing a school should be based on one's own strengths to have a clear direction.
During her studies, Ngoc prioritizes learning from teachers who teach her directly, because she can easily ask questions when she doesn't understand. In addition, studying and researching knowledge on her own helps her remember it longer and more effectively. If she only attends extra classes without being proactive, the results will not be high. In addition, self-studying through livestreams on Facebook or TikTok is also a useful way to improve her test-taking skills and achieve high scores.
