From running to relieve work pressure, after two years, Vy Phan successfully conquered the full marathon distance, aiming for the sub 3:45 mark at VnExpress Marathon Ha Long 2023.
Phan Thi Tuong Vy Vy, born in 1999, is a prominent beauty participating in VnExpress Marathon Amazing Ha Long on September 10. The girl from Gia Lai is a modern dance coach but quickly became a potential runner after two years of running.
Vy learned to dance since grade 5. In 2019, she opened her own center to teach dancing. In 2021, Vy faced a lot of pressure because she had to work continuously with a tight schedule. Being overwhelmed made her stressed and gain weight uncontrollably. At one point, her weight exceeded 60 - something that had never happened to a dancer who had been small since childhood. At the same time, Gia Lai province organized a large-scale marathon. Vy directly watched thousands of runners excitedly conquer the race track. The image of female runners with toned bodies and energetic running groups made the female dancer excited, curious and started to learn about running.

The female dancer then researched running lessons from basic to advanced to lose weight. Because she was used to exercising, running was not difficult. Vy woke up early at 4am, then ran 5 to 10 kilometers every day. The running distance gradually increased over time. The rest of the day, the 24-year-old runner spent on work, teaching many dance classes. "Running helped me balance my life and emotions. I was less negative, and my weight also started to decrease. From then on, I decided to become a real runner," said the runner born in 1999.
About 6 months after starting to run, Vy Phan decided to try her hand at the 21km distance at VnExpress Marathon Hue 2022. It was the first tournament for the runner from Gia Lai. The result exceeded expectations. She completed the race in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

At this time, Vy realized the next difficulties. Taking dance classes continuously overloaded her legs. Many choreographies required difficult or too strong techniques, causing leg pain. There was a time when the 24-year-old dancer went to the gym for 6 hours straight. Her legs hurt, Vy could not keep up with long runs, and her performance slowed down. "Once again, I had to arrange my work and my passion for running in a reasonable way. Both required a lot of use of my legs, but I could not exercise continuously for 10 or 12 hours a day," she said.
The female runner then spent weeks researching and rearranging her training and work schedule. She created a detailed schedule for training, work, family, rest and recovery. This runner strictly followed it and tried to protect her legs as much as possible. "Thanks to the scientific arrangement, I feel I have more energy. My weight is also controlled under 50 kg," Vy shared.

In 2023, Vy Phan decided to challenge herself with a distance of 42km, starting with VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight in February. The Gia Lai runner's achievement at that time was 4 hours 51 minutes. At the finish line, Vy was almost exhausted. But just two months later, at VM Hue 2023, Vy had a spectacular transformation when she improved her achievement to only 4 hours 1 minute, approaching the sub-4 hour mark.
The young runner continued to train with the goal of reaching sub4, something not many female runners can do. The results quickly came at VM Nha Trang on August 13. The female runner conquered the race with a relaxed mindset and finished after 3 hours and 57 minutes. The result helped Vy win 4th place in the age group. "Standing on the podium at VnExpress Marathon is something I never thought of because there are so many good runners. I see this as a stepping stone to go further in the future," Vy Phan confided.
VnExpress Marathon Amazing Ha Long, which started on September 10, is a female runner's tournament with a higher goal. Vy wants to reach the 3 hour 50 minute mark, although she thinks it will be difficult because many people advise that the competition conditions in Ha Long are hot and have many slopes. However, this runner is still confident because of careful preparation and support from the organizing committee. Vy has participated in all VnExpress Marathons this year and is always impressed with the support, many water stations, medical facilities, clear instructions.
"Running at VnExpress Marathon is always comfortable because the race course is beautiful and the runner support is great. Last year I didn't have time to participate in VM Ha Long so this year I want to conquer it even more," said the 24-year-old runner.

After VM Ha Long, Vy Phan will participate in all remaining VnExpress Marathons. The young girl's goal is to conquer the 3 hour 30 minute mark in 2024 and compete for rankings in the future. This is a big challenge so Vy is not in a hurry. She believes that the important thing is to accumulate gradually, balancing between running and dancing.
Success in recent tournaments has brought Vy Phan closer to the runner community. After the race, Vy is a typical example of a dynamic, adventurous, and energetic person. The young girl has a lot of positive energy and often shares funny clips on social networks. The female runner said she wants to build a TikTok channel to convey positive messages to the community.
