(MPI) - Within the framework of the Vietnam Semiconductor Industry Exhibition 2024 - SEMIExpo Viet Nam 2024 with the theme "Elevating Vietnam in the global semiconductor supply chain", Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for Semiconductor Industry Development chaired the Dialogue Program with domestic and foreign semiconductor enterprises.

Attending the Dialogue were Deputy Minister Nguyen Duc Tam, representatives of leaders of ministries, branches, localities; Vietnamese technology corporations and enterprises; FDI corporations and enterprises, international organizations in Vietnam; institutes and schools; representatives of units under the Ministry of Planning and Investment. On the partner side, there were Mr. KC Ang, Chairman of SEMI Southeast Asia Advisory Council, Chairman of Asia, Global Foundries; Ms. Linda Tan, Chairman of the Southeast Asia Semiconductor Association; business leaders, international policy makers.

The Dialogue is a high-level forum for the exchange and sharing of best practices in the semiconductor industry from international and Vietnamese experts, business leaders, and policy makers. With the aim of promoting the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, the program is part of the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s efforts to create a favorable environment for discussing national strategies, investing in infrastructure, and developing practical support policies for the semiconductor industry. Thereby, Vietnam can participate effectively and proactively in all stages of the semiconductor supply chain; helping to maximize Vietnam’s advantages and turn Vietnam into an attractive destination for major investors in this field.

Speaking at the Dialogue, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that Vietnam is at a very important time, striving to achieve the set socio-economic development goals. Vietnam is preparing a plan for the new development period of 2026-2030 and is preparing a mindset ready to enter a new era, which is the era of the Vietnamese people's rise, the era of building a rich and strong Vietnam. Along with that, Vietnam focuses on promoting digital transformation, green transformation and developing science and technology, innovation to create breakthroughs in productivity, quality and increase the competitiveness of the economy.

Organizing SEMIExpo Vietnam 2024 with many sideline activities such as seminars, talks, and dialogues is of great significance in connecting Vietnam with the world in the semiconductor field, together towards a future of rapid and sustainable development.

Vietnam is gradually laying the foundation for the development of the semiconductor industry with a complete ecosystem to support businesses to participate more deeply in the global value chain. In the global market, it is shown that the semiconductor industry is growing rapidly, playing an important role in implementing the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Countries are investing heavily in this industry to increase competition and promote development.

With the participation of many typical enterprises in the semiconductor industry in the world, the Minister hopes to listen to exchanges and proposals so that Vietnam can participate effectively and proactively in the stages of the semiconductor supply chain, helping to maximize advantages and turn Vietnam into an attractive destination for large investors in this field.

Accordingly, within the framework of the Dialogue, delegates focused on exchanging and discussing groups of issues raised by Minister Nguyen Chi Dung such as sharing experiences of countries on support policies and completing necessary infrastructure to develop the semiconductor industry; assessing the ability to participate in the supply and production chain of the world semiconductor industry; and cooperation plans with Vietnam.

At the same time, sharing about the human resource needs of enterprises in the coming time; successful cooperation models between enterprises - institutes - schools to train human resources in the semiconductor industry of Vietnam; implementing the goal of training 50,000 human resources with university degrees or higher to serve the semiconductor industry in all stages of the value chain in the semiconductor industry according to the Semiconductor Industry Human Resource Development Program to 2030, with a vision to 2050; enhancing cooperation opportunities with partners to develop high-quality human resources with Vietnam, suitable to actual needs, bringing benefits to all parties.

Also at the Dialogue, representatives of ministries, branches, localities, corporations and enterprises of Vietnam had specific exchanges and discussions in the spirit of sharing, connecting, cooperating and developing the semiconductor industry in general and Vietnam in particular; thereby bringing benefits to all parties.

Ms. Linda Tan thanked Minister Nguyen Chi Dung for his reception of the delegation; emphasizing that the first and largest international semiconductor exhibition held in Vietnam, chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and assigned to the National Innovation Center (NIC) in coordination with the Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI), demonstrated Vietnam's vision and determination for the semiconductor industry; making Vietnam an attractive investment destination globally.

Ms. Linda Tan expressed her hope that, through the information shared at the Dialogue, good policies and ideas will be proposed; at the same time, she expressed her belief that, with potentials and advantages such as an important geopolitical position and abundant human resources, Vietnam has great potential to improve this industry, helping Vietnam strengthen the global supply chain; affirmed her desire to promote cooperation with Vietnam in the coming time.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung highly appreciated the contents of the exchanges and discussions of the delegates and affirmed that the contents of the discussions will be summarized to report to the National Steering Committee on the development of the semiconductor industry, directly headed by the Prime Minister. Thereby, research will continue to be conducted to soon have specific policies to support businesses, improve infrastructure, and effectively implement the program of training human resources for the semiconductor industry in the coming time.

Through the Dialogue, corporations and enterprises have more information to research, cooperate in investment, together seize opportunities, overcome difficulties and challenges; this is also an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to have more information to have timely preparations for orientations for the development of the semiconductor industry.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung also expressed his belief that, with the strong determination of the Government leaders, with a clear strategy, policies, environment, favorable, attractive, competitive investment and business procedures, and with well-prepared human resources, Vietnam will soon rise to become an important link in the global supply chain. In that process, Vietnam hopes to receive support and cooperation from relevant parties, including the Southeast Asia Semiconductor Association./.
