Lam Dong General Hospital develops Oncology Department to treat cancer patients in a multi-modal manner

The organizational structure of Lam Dong General Hospital (BVĐK) is consolidated according to Decision No. 674/QD-UBND, dated April 19, 2022 of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee. Accordingly, the hospital's organizational system includes: Board of Directors, 9 functional departments, 24 clinical departments, specialized units and 6 paraclinical departments. In 2024, the hospital will achieve and exceed the targets assigned by Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health, with 808 beds, exceeding the plan by 108 beds; medical examinations will reach 107.3%; the number of inpatients will be 49,592 compared to the plan of 42,583.

With the orientation of developing Lam Dong General Hospital into a grade 1 hospital, developing many specialized techniques to become the leading hospital in the province and the region, the hospital has always strived to develop and promote its existing strengths, in combination with central hospitals, the hospital has continued to develop techniques and specialties. Since 2015, when the province invested in the DSA system, after more than 9 years of operation, the Interventional Cardiology Unit has grown increasingly solidly, with more than 3,000 people having undergone intervention and coronary stent placement, many patients with cardiac arrest and acute myocardial infarction have been promptly treated, many stroke patients have received early and timely emergency cerebral vascular intervention. In 2023 - 2024, continuing to utilize and develop more specialized techniques of interventional cardiology, the hospital has performed electrophysiological ablation to treat arrhythmias for 7 patients with the support of Thong Nhat Hospital.

The Department of Neurosurgery, with its investment in equipment such as a neural navigation system and an intracranial pressure measurement system, has helped to treat patients with herniated discs and brain tumors more effectively. The Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poisoning has been expanded and equipped with many new, modern machines, contributing to the effective treatment of severe and critical patients, helping to reduce the number of referrals and improve the hospital's care and treatment capacity. The Department is also receiving the transfer of emergency bedside artificial heart-lung machine (ECMO) technology from Cho Ray Hospital, helping to save the life of a patient with severe bilateral lung contusion causing multiple organ failure due to a traffic accident, and initially providing emergency care to a patient who is a Korean tourist with ARDS, respiratory failure, and rapidly progressing pneumonia until his condition is more stable enough to be transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for further treatment according to his family's wishes.

Thanks to the support of Tu Du Hospital, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has deployed an intrauterine insemination treatment unit, which is the first brick for infertility treatment at Lam Dong General Hospital, with the desire to promote the development of infertility treatment at the hospital; at the same time, it also receives the transfer of laparoscopic hysterectomy surgery techniques to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment.

With extensive experience in the field of nuclear medicine, the hospital continues to invest in the SPECT/CT system with professional support from Cho Ray Hospital and the Nuclear Research Institute. From 2022 to 2024, the focus will be on developing diagnostic techniques, treating thyroid diseases and assessing bone metastasis of cancers... At the same time, the Oncology Department, which initially focused on palliative treatment, has now been equipped with a linear accelerator system, CT simulation machine, and brachytherapy system... human resources have been gradually sent for training and receiving techniques from higher levels. The orientation is patient-centered, aiming for multimodal treatment according to the cancer treatment model of the world's leading countries.

Doctor Khoi has led, planned, trained, and received technical transfer from Cho Ray Hospital in the comprehensive treatment of cancer patients, especially breast cancer, thereby improving the quality and reputation of the hospital's examination and treatment. With the high determination of all staff and employees of the Oncology Department in particular and the hospital in general, now after the transfer of techniques, the team of doctors, nurses and technicians of the Oncology Department can perform well, directly treat cancer patients, reduce the burden on patients and their families in terms of economy and health, and also reduce overload for upper-level hospitals.

With the strong determination of the Party Committee and Board of Directors of Lam Dong General Hospital, the hospital still overcame difficulties, gradually promoted the development of the hospital, and hoped to soon turn the hospital into a grade 1 hospital and a regional hospital.
