Referencing the air monitoring application Air Visual (belonging to IQAir, which owns a large amount of aggregated data on air quality, headquartered in Switzerland), it shows that many areas in Ho Chi Minh City have average air quality measurement points on the morning of September 11. |
Specifically, according to Air Visual, by 8:30 a.m. on September 11, the concentration of fine dust PM 2.5 in Ho Chi Minh City reached about 20.5µg/m³ (the allowable level is about 5 µg/m³). |
“The concentration of fine dust PM2.5 in Ho Chi Minh City is currently 4.1 times higher than the value according to the annual air quality guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO),” the application said. |
Ms. Le Thi Xuan Lan (former deputy head of the forecasting department of the Southern Hydrometeorological Station) said that the fog formed because it had rained in the Ho Chi Minh City area in recent days, so the humidity was high. At night, the temperature dropped, causing water vapor to condense. In the morning, the weak sunshine caused fine dust to float in the air, creating fog. |
“Fog shows that the air quality is not good. Fine dust is suspended at low altitudes, so people need to wear masks and sunglasses when moving to protect their health,” Ms. Lan advised. |
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (September 11), Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces and cities will have clouds, scattered showers and thunderstorms; in the afternoon and evening, scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain.
