Arrest of Director of Ha Nam Ninh Customs Department for bribery

On November 27, the Investigation Police Agency of Ha Nam Province Police executed an arrest warrant for temporary detention and a search warrant for the residence and workplace of Nguyen Thu Nhieu (born in 1973, residing in Trung Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi), Director of the Ha Nam Ninh Customs Department, for the crime of accepting bribes.

The police also temporarily detained and searched the residence and workplace of Than Van Sang (born in 1984, residing in Tan My ward, Bac Giang city, Bac Giang province), Head of the Post-clearance Inspection Department, Ha Nam Ninh Customs Department, for the crime of accepting bribes.

The above orders have been approved by the People's Procuracy at the same level.

The Investigation Police Agency of Ha Nam Province Police said that this is the result of expanding the investigation into the case of "Smuggling" and "Tax evasion" that occurred at Pretty Vina Company Limited (Hoa Mac Industrial Park, Hoa Mac Ward, Duy Tien Town, Ha Nam Province).

According to Ha Nam Provincial Police, the units continue to investigate and expand the case with the spirit of no forbidden zones, no exceptions, and handling criminals according to the provisions of the law.

Previously, on April 2, the Economic Security Department of Ha Nam Provincial Police coordinated with Market Management Team No. 2, Ha Nam Provincial Market Management Department to discover and arrest a case of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border at Pretty Vina Company Limited.

This company is a 100% US-invested enterprise with an American as its general director. Authorities determined that this company had approximately VND51 billion worth of infringing goods.

During the investigation, the police initiated criminal proceedings and prosecuted 5 defendants.
